Many mechanics set Lords of the Fallen apart from other Soulslikes. Some of the biggest relate to Axiom and Umbral, the lands of the living and the dead, and the Lamp that allows you to transition between the two. Though the Lamp is rather basic at the beginning of the game, by the time you’re approaching the end of your time in Mournstead, you’ll have acquired a variety of useful upgrades. By visiting Molhu, you can install Umbral Eyes, increasing the capabilities of your Lamp or granting it new abilities altogether. Here are the best Umbral Eyes in Lords of the Fallen, ranked from good to exceptional.
5. Olleren
The Umbral Eye of Olleren extends your Soulflay ability to affect an area. Transforming any ability from single-target to AoE is basically always a buff, and it certainly is here. Its secondary socket effect increases damage dealt to enemy souls by 25%. The combination allows you to quickly shred through mobs while retaining this Eye’s usefulness against bosses. Many Eyes that would otherwise be great are held back by niche applications, but the Umbral Eye of Olleren is the opposite. You can find a place for it in just about any build, so whether you’re playing a Paladin or something stranger, Olleren is worth considering.
4. Iorelo the Cursed Knight
The Umbral Eye of Iorelo increases the duration of Soulflay stuns. Soulflays are already the best way to stun enemies, leaving them vulnerable to major damage, and this Eye just makes them better. Iorelo’s secondary effect increases your Dread resistance by +25%. Whether you farm Vigor in Umbral or you only transition for the occasional puzzle section, a little extra Dread resistance doesn’t hurt. 25% is substantial, but it’s important to keep in mind that Dread is still going to build no matter what. Hanging out in Umbral for extended periods of time will eventually get you killed, so do your business and then get out.
3. Loash
The Umbral Eye of Loash is more complicated than most eyes. Its secondary socket effect is the simplest of the two, decreasing withered health upon Umbral transition by 20%. Withered health is a serious concern, especially if you only entered Umbral after taking a nasty blow in a fight against Pieta or another difficult boss, so this is a welcome buff. Loash’s main socket effect is even better. When charging a heavy attack, all damage is received as wither damage, and your posture cannot be broken. If you’re playing a Heavy Encumbrance build or shield tanking your way through everything, the Umbral Eye of Loash is one of the best in the game.
2. Betrayed Eliard
As a secondary socket effect, the Umbral Eye of Betrayed Eliard grants +25% healing efficiency while in Umbral. Even with an upgraded Sanguinarix, heals can be hard to come by in Lords of the Fallen, and the fact that Betrayed Eliard fixes that already makes it one of the best Umbral Eyes. In addition to that, Betrayed Eliard allows grants +15% Dread resistance. Best of all, it grants an additional Soulflay charge. Soulflay is one of your best weapons against some of the most dangerous enemies in Mournstead, and it’s hard to put a price on having an extra charge.
1. Hooded Antuli
The Umbral Eye of Hooded Antuli grants -20% withered health upon Umbra transition. That’s a welcome change that softens the blow, but it’s nothing compared to this Eye’s main socket effect. Hooded Antuli grants immunity to damage for 8 seconds upon Umbral transition. 8 seconds may not sound like much, but in practice, it’s a huge amount of time. Take the opportunity to unload on a boss like Judge Cleric with your strongest attacks without any fear of reprisal. You’ll see just how potent this buff is. When you’re trying to clinch a tough boss fight, Hooded Antuli is easily one of the best Umbral Eyes in Lords of the Fallen.
