This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

Making the wrong choice in Baldur’s Gate 3 could mean it’s game over for you, so players should carefully consider whether they should feed or kill the Mind Flayer. Mind Flayers are the stuff that fuels your nightmares. You’ll see that expression take on new meaning when you’re trying to rest at your camp. Mind Flayers have squid-like heads with a bunch of tentacles and a big brain they can use to control your mind. Larian has done such a splendid job at making you feel like your mind is being seized that now you can’t decide: is it safe to feed the Mind Flayer, or should you kill it instead?

Before diving into this question, here’s a pro tip: you can save mid-cutscene before choosing. So save, make a choice, and if you’re unhappy with the outcome, reload it.

All we know about Mind Flayers in Baldur’s Gate 3 is that they’re these monstrous humanoid creatures with powerful psionic abilities. As if that’s not enough reason to decide whether to feed or kill this Mind Flayer, they also abduct you and a bunch of other fantastic characters. The obvious choice here is to kill this tentacled thing right then and there.

If your dice roll is successful, the Mind Flayer will die. You’ll be free to explore the ship wreckage area and loot as many chests as you can find.

Despite how gross it sounds, let’s say you choose the option to “lean in for a kiss” to feed the Mind Flayer instead of killing it in Baldur’s Gate 3. You’ll then get advice from your party members to “get away” and a second dialogue option to opt out. If you still wish to persist, then the Mind Flayer’s tentacles will suck your life out. A ‘Game Over’ screen will appear, prompting you to load a previous save.
