Turning into bears isn’t the only thing that Druids are good for. These masters of the wilderness aren’t your traditional arcane scholars, but what they lack in sophistication, they more than make up for with power and cleverness. It’s probably easier to play a Paladin than to learn the ways of a Druid, but players that take the time to do so will be mightily rewarded. Whether the player is multi-classing or running a pure Druid, this class gives players plenty of options. Here are the best Druid spells in Baldur’s Gate 3, ranging from very practical to indispensable.
8. Healing Word
(Updated on October 7, 2024 – updated links and format)
Healing 1d4+3 points of HP may not sound like a lot, but at low levels, that much healing can easily bring a character back from death’s door. Though the Druid has a stronger healing spell at this level, Healing Word has a major advantage in that it can be used at a distance. Druids tend to be more durable than the average Sorcerer or Wizard, but unless they’re in bear form, they really shouldn’t be sitting on the frontline. Healing Word lets your character patch up their allies without wading too far into the fray themselves, making it one of the best Druid spells.
7. Hold Person
Considering how vital movement is in Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s no surprise that trapping an enemy in place is a formidable power. Hold Person does just that, and as a Level 2 Enchantment, the player has access to it for most of the game. Creatures struck by this power cannot move, act, or react. Additionally, all attacks within 1m are Critical Hits against them. That combo makes it easy to set a foe up for combo attacks. Just hold them in place and then let your Rogue or Barbarian ruin their day. No wonder this is one of the best Druid spells.
6. Spike Growth
Spike Growth is a great area denial spell. Successfully controlling enemy movements across the battlefield is one of the surest paths to victory, especially on Tactician difficulty. Spike Growth lets you do just that. This spell causes thorns to erupt from the ground, turning the surface into Difficult Terrain and dealing damage to anything that passes through it. This combination allows Druids to slow enemies to a crawl and, if those enemies are weak or already injured, kill them outright. Daydreaming about their animal forms may be one of the first things a new Druid will do, but learning Spike Growth shouldn’t be far behind.
5. Call Lightning
Call Lightning has some similarities to another of the best elemental damage spells in the game, Fireball. They both affect multiple targets and deal half damage even if their opponents succeed on their Saving Throw. 3d10 Lightning Damage is already good. What makes Call Lightning so special is that if the player casts it again within 10 turns, the second casting doesn’t expend a spell slot. Being able to deal a significant chunk of damage to multiple enemies and still save a slot for later makes Call Lightning of the best Druid spells for DPS.
4. Conjure Minor Elemental
Pet builds aren’t for everyone, but anyone planning to run one should give Druid serious consideration. Conjure Minor Elemental provides the player with three choices of elementals to summon: the Ice Mephits, Mud Mephits, or Azer. Each of these creatures has unique traits that make them more useful in different situations. Even in circumstances where none of those creatures is the perfect fit, Conjure Minor Elemental still allows the player to draw aggro away from their other characters with their summoned pet. For utility, lethality, and adorableness, Conjure Minor Elemental is one of the best Druid spells.
3. Stoneskin
Stoneskin hardens a character’s flesh, making them resistant to incoming damage. Specifically, the spell reduces non-magical Bludgeoning, Piercing, and Slashing damage by half. Casting Stoneskin on a tank essentially guarantees they’ll survive whatever non-enchanted barrage the enemy throws at them. This effect is especially nice on Barbarians who keep leaving themselves vulnerable due to their rage. Anything that gives Druids better synergy with the other classes is great, and that’s what helps make Stonestkin one of the best Druid spells.
2. Dominate Beast
Anyone who has played a Larian title before will know the developer’s fondness for animals. That fondness is evident throughout Baldur’s Gate 3. There are a ton of creatures, from squirrels to Owlbears, and with Dominate Beast, some of the game’s deadliest critters can be weaponized. Controlling enemies is always useful since it removes a source of incoming damage while increasing one’s own damage output. The only real downside of this spell is that the caster
1. Speak With Animals
Larian Studios gives players many ways to chat with animals. From spells to scrolls and traits, getting chatty with the local fauna is easy. The Druid comes equipped with their own solution: Speak with Animals. The ability to understand and communicate with wildlife is essential for solving and advancing certain quests. Speak with Animals ranks amongst the Druid’s best spells for its ability to instantly transform the game and story. It might not save the day in combat, but who needs that when you can talk to squirrels?
