Bethesda’s expansive and immersive space adventure Starfield features tons of quests or missions. For that reason, on some occasions, triggering new missions isn’t as easy as finding a Unique weapon or armor. If you’re looking to find and complete the hidden “Deep Cover” mission, then you’re reading the right Starfield guide.
Starfield “Deep Cover” UC Faction Mission Walkthrough
Go to the UC Vigilance
There are actually three ways to start the “Deep Cover” Faction Mission in Starfield:
- It can be triggered when you are caught committing a crime in a United Colonies-controlled area like New Atlantis. You can try pickpocketing, stealing, or smuggling Contraband. When chased by UC guards, refuse to pay the Bounty and get yourself arrested.
- Complete the “Supra Et Ultra” and “Grunt Work” UC Faction Mission. You will be summoned to the UC Vigilance spaceship.
- Head straight to the UC Vigilance spaceship orbiting the moon of Phobos, Mars, in the Sol System. Dock and speak to a UC SysDef Guard inside, and ask him to escort you to Commander Ikande.
Whatever method you choose, Commander Kabwe Ikande will ask you to go deep undercover into Crimson Fleet’s territory. Be careful though, this is a one-in-a-playthrough chance. Refuse his offer and you won’t be able to trigger this mission again. The same goes even if you get arrested, turn his offer down, and go back to UC Vigilance.
Speak to Lieutenant Toft
After Commander Ikande is done briefing, you’ll be tasked to speak with his second-in-command, Lieutenant Jillian Toft. She’s the one standing to the left of the Commander, or your right, in the Operations Center. Do note that if your mission marker bugging out, redirecting you somewhere else, just speak with Lieutenant Toft to unlock the UC Vigilance door.
Lieutenant Toft then will say that the UC needs as many suspicious or incriminating records of the Crimson Fleet as you can get. Best of all, as a deep cover agent, you’ll be paid for each piece of evidence at the end of this Starfield mission chain! You might also want to collect them all for some bonus dialogues near the end of the mission chain.
Now you need to head to Cydonia on Mars and bait a Crimson Fleet member using the Aurora Contraband given by the UC. Lieutenant Toft suggests heading over to the Trade Authority and talking to Saoirse Bowden.
Go to the Trade Authority on Mars to Continue “Deep Cover” Starfield Mission
Once you land on Cydonia, head over to the planet’s Trade Authority and speak with a Saoirse Bowden. From the airlock just keep walking straight, following the mission marker, until you reach the city’s main area to find the building. Unfortunately, Saiorse will plainly reject your offer as the organization does not purchase Aurora.
Nevertheless, for 1,000 Credits, she can tell you someone else who might be interested in the stuff. Don’t bother negotiating with her though, it won’t work. Pay her up and Saoirse will suggest you go to the Broken Spear bar for someone called Adler Kemp.
Go to the Broken Spear
Head back to the airlock and take a left to find the Broken Spear bar. Head inside and you’ll find Adler Kemp sitting down not far from the entrance with a briefcase. As a member of Crimson Fleet, he said he’s willing to set up a meeting with the group for the Aurora. To make it happen, you’ll need to run his errand first. A miner called Karl Fielding has racked up a lot of debt with the Crimson Fleet. Make sure he pays the group back.
As a side note, you can find your first Crimson Fleet evidence here. On the table just behind Adler, lies the Naeva Meetup (Evidence) item.
Go to Cydonia’s Residential Area for the Next Step of “Deep Cover” Starfield Mission
At the Deimo’s Miner’s Quarters part of the Residential Area, Karl can be found sitting in front of crates looking depressed. Still, Adler wants his 3,000 Credits back and he’ll get it — one way or another. As you can expect, you can either pay off his debt if you have the Credits or Persuade him to finally pay up. Remember that failing the speech check will force you to cover his debt. But if you have at least Rank 2 Persuasion, you should be able to get by.
You can also attack and kill Karl in Starfield‘s “Deep Cover” Faction Mission. But doing so is really not recommended and frankly, pointless. Kill him, loot his body, and you’ll only get 740 Credits. All for being hunted down by UC Guards because you just killed a person in broad daylight. And you also failed the mission because you did not collect the debt.
Head Back to the Broken Spear
Speak with Adler again and make sure he’s satisfied with the result. He will agree to set you up a meeting with Crimson Fleet’s second-in-command Naeva Mora on Europa, Jupiter’s moon. With this, you’ve completed Starfield‘s “Deep Cover” Faction Mission and started the “Rook Meets King.”
