At one point, LeBron James and Kyrie Irving were the best duo in the NBA. However, after Irving forced his way out of Cleveland to lead his own team, “The King” is missing his old running mate. Irving has found his way to the Dallas Mavericks, where he and Luka Doncic made the 2024 NBA Finals. The pair will take on the Boston Celtics as game one is set for June 6th.
As said by The Sun, James recently appeared on J.J. Redick’s podcast, Mind The Game, where he expressed his feelings about the Kyrie situation. The “Kid from Akron” had nothing but high praise for his old teammate and friend.
Lebron James Misses Kyrie Irving
“There was nothing on the basketball floor that Kyrie couldn’t do,” he explained. And sitting here watching [The Playoffs], I’m playing like so f*****g happy and so proud to watch him continue his growth and whatever the case may be. And at the same time, I’m so f*****g mad at the same time that I am not his running mate anymore.”
Even though things ended on bad terms in Cleveland, these two NBA legends are still friends, and there have even been talks about a reunion. LeBron James continued by saying that Kyrie Irving is the “ultimate wild card.” Having him on your team is like playing a draw-four card every time in Uno.
However, this feeling of respect and regret goes both ways. Irving has stated that he made a mistake by requesting a trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers. Kyrie knows that if he had just talked to Bron, they would have worked it out.
LeBron James and Kyrie Irving made history together many times. The 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers are still the only team to ever come back from being down three games to one in the NBA Finals. Maybe one day before it is too late, they will get to run it back together one last time.
