InZOI Developer Plans to Support Its Game ‘For the Next 20 Years’

Yes, you read that right: 20 years!

By now, we all know that inZOI is the light at the end of a Sims-centric tunnel. In recent years, we’ve all seen The Sims 4 maintain the crown as the only life sim game around, or the most famous for that matter. While we all know this title has stayed afloat with its countless updates, costly expansions, and devoted modding community, there comes the point when we all just say, “We need something new.” Fortunately, Krafton answered our prayers in a very hopeful way. In a recent announcement, inZOI developer, Krafton, confirmed that the game is bound for this year, but most importantly, we can expect decades of content, as inZOI will be around for at least 20 years.

In a recent interview with PC Gamer, Krafton commented that the plan is to support inZOI “for the next 20 years” after its release. Honestly, this is quite a bold goal and a bit unbelievable due to recent modern live services models. However, many people, myself included, have faith in this statement as there’s never really been a lot of competition for The Sims, and a game with decades worth of support could be what the market truly needs.

On the other hand, many players believe this is an unrealistic goal, especially since many companies abandon live service games before even reaching the five-year mark. Regardless of what happens, one thing that makes me a bit skeptical is the actual 20-year support plan. How will that happen? Will inZOI go down the overpriced DLC road we’ve seen in The Sims 4? Will it rely on modding to stay afloat? I mean, the latter could happen. Look at how many new mods Skyrim has nowadays. It’s a game that has been on the market for more than 20 years. Meanwhile, Reddit users were quick to share their own opinions, such as:

20 years of support? 😬 That feels highly unrealistic, I can’t think of any single player game that was supported that long before the devs moved on. And it just makes me think of Sims 4, still being stuffed with overpriced DLC 10 years later while so many bugs remain unaddressed and the game slowly collapses in on itself.

There are also users with a more positive outlook and hope that inZOI will survive for the next two decades:

My hope is that inzoi clearly has a better foundation to be able to do this. They are using an engine with more longevity than sims 4 and they started as the game they still are unlike sims 4.

Still, this is all speculation, and we’re not sure how Krafton will proceed.

Ultimately, all we can do is wait. While the inZOI developers claim the release date is set for this year, there isn’t a true date or even a window. Also, the year is about to end, so we could be looking at one of 2024’s final releases in the worst-case scenario. In any case, the skepticism and excitement are here, with the latter being higher than the former, or so I hope. If inZOI really stays around for more than 20 years, I won’t mind jumping into this life sim that already looks better than anything I’ve played.
