Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may have to flee their Montecito home after the area received evacuation warning amid LA wildfires. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex earned rare praise from royal fans recently following their decision to open their home to Los Angeles residents seeking a safe haven as the wildfires ravaged the city. Although their charitable efforts have stirred mixed reactions with some slamming them for doing so just for attention, making their home a safe haven undoubtedly offered victims that needed help in a time of crisis. However, the Sussexes may soon need solace themselves, following the latest warning from the local fire department.
The pair, who reside in the affluent Montecito neighborhood of California received a warning to “be ready to evacuate” at any given time along with other residents of their community. The department issued the “Red Flag Warning” to residents in an Instagram post, mentioning locations like Santa Barbara County Interior Mountains, and Eastern Saint Ynez Range “including the mountains above Montecito” where the famous couple reside.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Warned to Be Prepared to Flee Montecito Home
The Montecito Fire Department estimated the danger times to be from 10 PM on Monday to 12 PM on Wednesday, with wind intensities potentially spiking up to 50 mph. These conditions, coupled with the dry air could potentially cause the LA wildfires to spread to these areas, putting Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Montecito home a high-risk. The department warned,
“Under these conditions, fires will grow rapidly and behave erratically. Be ready to evacuate in the event of a vegetation fire.”
The Montecito Fire Department also urged residents to “prepare now,” as these “red flag” conditions could cause power outages, which may deny residents of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s neighborhood access to timely info should an emergency evacuation notice be issued due to the LA wildfires. To better prepare, they urged residents to visit “sce.com for outage and public safety power shutoff information.”
Additionally, residents should endeavor to keep their phones and other important electronics charged, and also ensure their garage spaces are not completely electricity-dependent. For those with garages unable to open manually, the fire department advised them to park their vehicles outside and on the ready in case of an evacuation notice. The department offered other safety tips, such as knowing at least two evacuation “routes” out of their neighborhoods and avoiding hiking during this period of crisis.
Harry and Meghan Support Relief Efforts Amid LA Wildfires

The warning comes days after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visited the ruins of the Palisades wildfire to assess the damage and enable them to better channel their relief efforts. Harry and his wife spent almost an hour exploring the davastation and speaking with city officials including Mayor Victor Gordo.
Despite the backlash their visit garnered, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took things further by reportedly offering displaced victims shelter in their Montecito abode. The duo also encouraged others to follow suit in a statement, also emphasizing the need to donate to relief causes. While Harry and Meghan are no doubt a wealthy pair, they are not exempt from the devastating impact of losing their home to the wildfires should the LA inferno blaze through their Montecito neighborhood. Here’s hoping their good deeds shine through during this time of crisis.
