Billy Ray Cyrus‘ viral performance at Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony has reignited theories about what could have driven a wedge between the singer and his family. Many fans initially believed that his divorce from Tish Cyrus and subsequent marriage with Firerose drew him away from his six children. However, after he took the stage at the Liberty Ball, they became convinced it had more to do with his support of Trump. Trace Cyrus, his oldest son, has since shut down those claims by revealing he shares his father’s political views.
Trace Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus Both Support Donald Trump
During an Instagram Q&A, a fan asked Trace Cyrus why his family became estranged from Billy Ray Cyrus in recent years. “Is it because he likes Trump or because he really does need help,” they asked. While the musician didn’t explain the real reason behind the Cyrus family feud, he did deny it had anything to do with politics.
Trace Cyrus made it clear he also supports Donald Trump by flaunting his merch inspired by the president. After filming his TV showing the politician and businessman on screen, Trace went over to his mirror to reveal he’s wearing a Trump hat. The black cap features Trump’s name inside a logo made to look like Marlboro cigarettes. The Metro Station star also turned around to show off his huge Trump flag featuring the phrase “Make American Great Again.”
“This is the entrance to my studio right here,” he said, before adjusting his flag. “Let’s fix that. Show some respect to the flag.”
Trace then brought up Billy Ray Cyrus’ performance at the Liberty Ball. “Yeah, no one was more excited to watch my father’s performance than me,” he said. “I was sitting around all day in anticipation. I was super excited. I love Trump.”
So, What Really Went Wrong?
The “Achy Breaky Heart” singer appeared at Trump’s inauguration event on Monday, Jan. 20. The country star performed his classic 1992 single and his most recent hit, “Old Town Road,” during the ceremony. While Billy Ray claimed his soundcheck went “GREATTT,” his actual performance wasn’t well received. Some fans called it a “disaster” since it was so shaky. Many even expressed their concern over Billy Ray’s well-being. Their worry only grew after Trace Cyrus posted an alarming message on Instagram.
“Me and the girls have been genuinely worried about you for years but you’ve pushed all of us away,” Trace wrote in a letter to his father. “We are all hanging on to memories of the man we once knew & hoping for the day he returns.”
Trace proceeded to claim Billy Ray Cyrus was “not healthy.” He insinuated the country star may be struggling with alcohol. “We haven’t talked in a while but I’m over a year and half clean from alcohol. Guess what? I feel amazing,” he said. “I don’t know what you’re struggling with exactly but I think I have a pretty good idea & I’d love to help you if you would open up and receive the help.”
The musician told his father he will “continue to pray” for him until they can finally reunite.
Billy Ray Cyrus has yet to publicly respond to Trace Cyrus’ message.
