Will Smith is speaking out more these days about his past connections with various celebrities in the music business. While conducting a recent interview, Smith opens up about his last conversations with the late artists Prince and Biggie, referring to it as an eerie music tie.
During his guest spot on The Broken Record podcast show with Justin Richmond, Will Smith speaks out about his spooky connection with departed artists Biggie Smalls and Prince. Many music fans will recall that Biggie Smalls died at 24 following a drive-by death in Los Angeles in 1997.
Purple Rain hitmaker Prince passed away in 2016 following fentanyl abuse at his Paisley Park recording studio and home in Chanhassen, Minnesota, at the age of 57. Sadly, both musicians died before their time and were close friends of Bad Boys star Will Smith.
During the interview, Smith tells Richmond, “I don’t even want to say this out loud, cause it’s like a terrible jinx. I met Biggie four hours before he got killed, and I talked to Prince eight hours before he died,” Smith told Richmond.
Will Smith Claims Biggie And Prince’s Death Still Haunts Him
The bizarre coincidence left him broken. The rapper adds that Biggie’s death left him in tears. “Cause it was stupid and just centered on hip-hop for rapping. That one hurt me. It scared me, too.”
As for Prince’s untimely departure, Will states, “We talked that night, and in the morning, he was gone,” Smith said. “I don’t know what that says about me.” He then jokingly told the podcast host, not to call him.
Will Smith is stepping back into the public eye more these days. As Smith’s followers will know Will faced fan scrutiny back in 2022 after the Fresh Prince star walked on stage and slapped 94th Academy Awards host Chris Rock in a fit of rage following a joke about Smith’s estranged wife Jada Pinkett Smith.
The entertainer also recently tested the waters with the public following the Chris Rock slapping. During the 2025 Grammys Will Smith introduced a musical tribute to legend Quincy Jones, who was executive producer on Smith’s breakout show, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Will’s appearance at the Grammys left fans conflicted with many unsure as to whether or not they would tune in. Smith appears to have a long way to go to get back into the good graces of the public since the slap incident. Over the years he has faced a lot of negative publicity that has tarnished his popularity.
As previously reported, Will also spoke out about his rumored connection to disgraced music mogul Sean Diddy Combs. Smith called his rumored involvement with Diddy ‘a damn lie‘ adding, “I don’t have s*** to do with Puffy.”
Currently, Will Smith is making the rounds to plug his first music album in 20 years. The new album, Based on True Story, includes the new single Beautiful Scars. The record is due out in March. It will be the first of three albums the Grammy winner will be releasing.
