Dropkick Murphys Clarifies They Deactivated X Prior to Trump & Musk Criticism, but ‘He Would’ve Suspended Us by Now’

A wise choice

Another celebrity group has once again seemingly fallen prey to X/Twitter’s suspensions after they spoke out against the current Trump administration. The group in question is none other than the Dropkick Murphys and they recently had a concert on St. Patrick’s Day where they criticized the current government, which includes President Trump‘s Special Advisor, Elon Musk.

Apparently, the X/Twitter suspension became apparent to the public after Dropkick Murphys’ lead singer, Ken Casey, called President Donald Trump a “rat and a coward”. While Most of Dropkick Murphys’ songs are mostly about family, friends, and beliefs, Ken Casey argues that Trump is the opposite to what they’re singing about, hence the harsh criticisms.

“One other thing Dropkick Murphys has always been about is a lot of songs about standing with your friends and family and the things you believe in, whether itโ€™s politics, or just how you were raised.

And Donald Trump is the exact opposite of everything we sing about. Heโ€™s turned on his friends. Heโ€™s turned on Americaโ€™s friends and our allies. Heโ€™s a rat and a coward when you think of it that way. America shouldnโ€™t be turning on our allies,” says Ken Casey of Dropkick Murphys, courtesy of MeidasTouch Network

Such a statement would have earned the ire of Elon Musk, who currently serves as Trump’s Special Advisor and someone who also funds Trump’s political circle. At the moment, Dropkick Murphys’ X/Twitter account is still banned or suspended.

However, the Celtic punk rock band has clarified that they actually “broke up” with Elon Musk and X/Twitter as early as 2022 when the billionaire bought the website and brand. Dropkick Murphys even clarified that they pulled out their official X/Twitter account and have since been absent on the platform.

As such, the Dropkick Murphys account that got suspended was an impersonator or a fan account. In fact, Ken Casey says the band even filed a complaint against the impersonator account, which is why it showed up as suspended. However, Casey also presumes that had they been active on X/Twitter officially, Musk “would have suspended us by now,” thanks to Rolling Stone for the transcript.

Not the First Time X Supposedly ‘Silenced’ an External Critic

One of the reasons why Ken Casey of Dropkick Murphy assumed that they would’ve gotten suspended was that another celebrity who is vocal about their disdain for Trump & Musk also got suspended– even though they weren’t using X to criticize.

Bill Burr is among those celebrities, according to his claims. The comedian apparently received an email one day that he got flagged for suspension on X/Twitter despite being inactive on the platform for years. Burr surmises that the suspension was due to how he’s being vocal in his interviews and podcasts about Musk, even before the billionaire got involved with Trump.

Prior to the election, fundraiser accounts that were campaigning for Kamala Harris were also suspended from X/Twitter, in which people accused the platform of election interference. Many celebrities have since migrated from X into other similar apps such as Threads and Blue Sky.
