Katy Perry‘s Lifetimes tour has officially kicked off in Mexico City. Over the past few days, the “Woman’s World” singer has been performing back-to-back concerts at the Arena CDMX. After catching a glimpse of her shows on TikTok, fans can’t help but feel disappointed over her choreography, which they feel lacks energy. Since they think she isn’t giving it her all, fans are critizing Perry for focusing too much on her recent trip to space instead of her tour.
Katy Perry’s ‘Lifetimes’ Tour Choreography Goes Viral For the Wrong Reasons
During the minute-long clip, Katy Perry breaks into dance while performing her hit single “Part Of Me.” The first part of the choreography involved her standing still while moving her arms up and down and then from side to side. She then spinned around in a circle while rocking her arms back and forth. Once her back was turned away from the crowd, Perry began twerking before turning back around and doing an awkward jump assisted by two of her backup dancers. The final move involved the pop star dropping to the ground as she stared wide at fans.
The crowd may have been supportive. However, fans online completely ripped apart Perry’s choreography. “It’s giving school talent show,” one person said. “This looks like an SNL skit,” said another. “I want a refund and I didn’t even go,” read another comment. “Maybe she shouldn’t gone to rehearsals instead of space,” said a fourth person.
It’s Been A Rough Few Months for the Singer
Katy Perry’s Lifetimes tour has only just begun, but it seems it’s already wrapped up in controversy. The singer performed her first concert in Mexico City on April 23, followed by a second show on April 25. She’ll have one more performance at the Arena CDMX on April 26 before she moves on to Monterrey. Once she’s done with Mexico, Perry will head to the U.S. to continue her Lifetimes tour in cities like Chicago, Minneapolis, and Dallas. Afterward, she’ll take her tour to other countries like Australia, Canada, Brazil, England, Germany, and Italy, among many others.
The Lifetimes tour marks Perry’s first world tour since 2018. It’s in support of her seventh studio album, 143, which dropped in September 2024. The record, which featured her single “Women’s World,” didn’t receive the best response from fans. Apart from calling her new music “boring,” fans criticized Perry for working with Dr. Luke on her album after Kesha had previously accused him of sexual assault. Many boycotted Katy Perry’s Lifetimes album as a result of the collaboration.
In more recent news, fans criticized Perry for taking part in the Blue Origin flight earlier this month. The star was one of the six famous women who had the opportunity to go to space. Many called the trip a waste of time and resources. Despite the backlash, Perry and the other crew members have defended their decision to participate in the mission.
