Katy Perry may come off as a cool girl, but one California hairstylist’s experiences with the singer revealed a different side of her. The hairstylist, Justin Anderson, described the Roar singer as “insecure” after she made him feel uncomfortable about flaunting his wealth.
In a recent episode of Let’s Be Honest With Kristin Cavallari, Anderson pointed out Perry’s flaws, which he noticed during two different encounters with her. The celebrity hairstylist disclosed that his first meeting with the Fireworks singer was at a party in her house.
However, upon interacting with her, she commented on his expensive Cartier Love bracelets, which put him on the spot. Revealing the remark, the hair guru said, “She’s like, ‘Ooh, three love bracelets. Somebody’s rich,’ in front of a group of people.”
He continued, “She said to me, ‘What family do you come from? Did you come from a rich family?’ Anderson noted that the comment was “annoying” before saying that the singer repeated the same remark about his jewelry on their second encounter.
This time, the pop star met with Anderson to do her hair, and on spotting his jewelry stack, she repeated, “Oooh, fancy bracelets. Three love bracelets?”
Hairstylist Claims Katy Perry’s Noticeable Flaw Is ‘Putting Someone In Their Place’
According to the hair expert, the two meetings with the songwriter made him view her as someone who wants to feel superior about herself. He said, “I think it’s a massive insecurity. And I think it’s to immediately put someone in their place.”
Cavallari chimed in, “It’s to make her feel better about herself.” Several netizens had mixed reactions to the interview shared on TikTok. While some users slammed Perry, others blasted the hair guru for his impression of the former American Idol judge, claiming he was trying to flex while using her name for attention.
One netizen wrote, “Katy always gives mean girl insecure vibes to me.” Another echoed a similar sentiment: “She’s always come off as insecure/passive-aggressive. Has to assert dominance.”
A third netizen claimed the mom of one commented on Anderson’s jewelry to justify her spending. “I wonder if it’s a projection thing to alleviate her own guilt about her lavish spending habits. Like desperately trying to rationalize herself on the moral high ground,” the comment read.
This isn’t the first time the singer’s spending habits have earned her criticism from fans. As we covered, in April, Perry went on an 11-minute trip to space, which cost about $28 million and was blasted for wasting money that “could have changed lives.”
