In a segment meant to mock Noem’s comments, Goldberg told viewers, “Everybody, get a little cocoa butter, sit in the sun … this is probably the only time you could do this. Give yourself a Latin accent and see if they can tell who’s who.” While Goldberg appeared to be (half) joking, the remark was met with immediate criticism online, with many accusing her of racial insensitivity. Some felt the comment trivialized serious issues like immigration profiling and cultural identity, and Megyn Kelly was among the first to call her out.

Kelly took to X (formerly Twitter) after the clip went viral, bluntly writing, “I hear this is racist.” Her post quickly gained traction as users debated whether Goldberg’s comments crossed the line. Many agreed with Kelly, saying the joke was “tone-deaf” and “offensive,” while others defended Goldberg, arguing the host was using satire to criticize Noem’s comments about ICE and immigration enforcement.
The controversy stems from Governor Kristi Noem’s recent remarks warning immigrants to stay away from next year’s Super Bowl, saying ICE agents “will be all over that place.” Noem also suggested only “law-abiding Americans who love this country” should attend, comments that drew widespread backlash.
Bad Bunny, who has spoken out in the past against the Trump administration’s immigration policies, was announced as the halftime performer just days before Goldberg’s segment. In September, the artist revealed he had excluded the U.S. from his tour out of concern for potential immigration raids.
