Onebitbeyond announced earlier today on the PlayStation blog that their upcoming RPG The Swords of Ditto will be out April 24th, 2018. The announcement comes with an updated trailer as well, seen below.

The Swords of Ditto – Gameplay Trailer | PS4

Described as a “randomly generated co-op Zelda” when it was revealed last summer, the “compact action RPG” sets players against a great evil plaguing the land. Each new game begins with the players awakening to the return of that evil, Mormo. Immediately, they are granted the legendary sword named in the title. The catch? Players must defeat Mormo in a span of three days – before her armies can gain control.

The easiest way to defeat Mormo is by working together in cooperative play. Explore the world as a team in order to gather weapons and items, level up the swords, and destroy Mormo’s anchors to weaken her in an effort to topple a hobbled final boss.

While it’s entirely possible to defeat Mormo on the first run, and even challenger her immediately, the game changes a lot with each defeat as well. If you fail to defeat her in the three-day time limit, you’ll be able to try again, albeit with a brand new hero. Each failure results in a century passing. With that passage of time comes repercussions. The once thriving world will decay depending on the previous hero.

But don’t fret, there is hope within each loss. Each new game allows you to retain your sword and the experience points gained through previous playthroughs. Certain items from past heroes also have the possibility to carry over, or even extend time before Mormo’s victory.

Everything about The Swords of Ditto sounds interesting and refreshing. And if the game’s publisher has anything to say about it, it will definitely be as cynical and crazy as it looks (see Devolver Digital E3 2017).

While no price point has been listed for the game yet, The Swords of Ditto will be released for PlayStation 4 and PC April 24th.
