Batman: The Enemy Within, Telltale’s take on the Caped Crusader, has been a pretty successful tale. Telltale has taken us on a fun ride that has definitely surpassed the solid first season by subverting our expectations with what we typically expect from a Batman story while remaining true to iconic characters. We will get to conclude this season very soon as Telltale has announced that the fifth and final episode of Batman: The Enemy Within will release on Tuesday, March 27, 2017.

This season’s focus has been on the transformation of John Doe into the Joker, and Telltale is addressing one of the big complaints that people typically have with their stories: an illusion of choice. The press release for the final episode, “Same Stitch,” claims there are two unique endings to the story as well as two possible versions of the Joker that can be born. It reads:

What would you choose: a friend whose unhinged approach to justice turns your allies against you, or a sworn enemy who will stop at nothing to see you suffer as your city burns? Based on the relationship you’ve built with John Doe, you’ll see one of two very different stories play out. So what’ll it be, Bruce: friend…or foe?

Batman: The Enemy Within Joker Gun

Overall, Telltale claims the last episode will have almost four hours of content across two different storylines and only a few overlapping scenes. James Windeler, the lead writer, claims it is the “most ambitious piece of content Telltale has ever produced.” Ambition does not always mean quality, but if Telltale can achieve some truly unique storylines that may push Batman: The Enemy Within up into the upper tier that Telltale has yet to hit since Tales from the Borderlands.

Batman: The Enemy Within‘s finale will release March 27 on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, and mobile devices. Read our review of episode four here, and stay tuned for our review of the final episode.
