There have been various incidents revolving around homophobia in the United States as of late, and it only seems to be happening more and more frequently. Now, it’s reportedly sneaking into the school system, likely leaving parents across the country outraged. One Houston, Texas, mother’s young son is the most recent victim of homophobic bullying at his school. Unfortunately, the story only gets worse as he claims that his teacher had allegedly agreed with the bullies and called him gay to his face.
The above video was posted to the TikTok account @themdcgregorfam, a channel dedicated to the McGregor family, which is made up of five children as well as their mother and father. In this particular video, her son Chance talks about a traumatic experience he had at his school because of bullying.
He alleges that after being called gay by a student, causing the entire gym to laugh, the school did nothing. After the incident happened again, he told his teacher and was met with some uncalled-for and, honestly, unwarranted advice. The teacher reportedly said that she agrees with the bullies and also believes he is gay because of the way he walks.
When Chance tried to process this information, the teacher reportedly pulled him aside and asked him, “Do you know why I said that?” When he said no, she then said, “The other people are noticing that you walk funny, too.” After this shocking conversation, Chance packed up his bag and was approached by his bully, whom he then decided to push away from him.
Texas Mother Outraged at the Way Her Son’s School Handled Him Being Bullied
This is finally when the school took action, but against Chance, giving him a write-up. To make matters worse, the school reportedly called his mother to report the incident as his fault. When his mother asked about why they didn’t address the core matter at hand, they explained that they would take care of it tomorrow.
Commentators swooped into the comments to condemn the teacher’s actions, while many others showed empathy for Chance. One person even said, “To be bullied by students & teachers?! ☹ No way.” Chance’s mom even replied to this comment, saying, “That’s exactly what happened, she bullied my baby!“
This information outraged his mother, because schools are meant to provide a safe space for children to learn and grow. She even captioned the video with, “We all know he’s been calls about EVERYTHING he does at school. No matter how small. Today they crossed the line. I’m so disgusted and mad at how he was handled. Internet aunties we ride at dawn!! WOOOSAHHHHHH.”
In an update, it is shared that the teacher did actually say this and explained that it was taken out of context. She alleges that she had simply meant to say that when he walks funny, “people are going to call you that because you’re being silly.” When the teacher finally does apologize, she does so in a way that still insinuates that he had misunderstood her. Regardless of the case, it is never okay to speak this way to a child.
