ICE Agents Caught Breaking Glass To Enter Apartment Complex in Minneapolis: ‘I Guess It’s the Taxpayer and the Building Owner That Get to Pay For It.’

ICE agents have no respect

ICE agents recently broke the glass door of an apartment building in Minneapolis, Minnesota, leaving residents distressed by the violence of their actions. ICE has frequently entered places without legal authorization during raids, and this is just the latest example of the agency’s controversies in Minnesota.

The video showcasing the event starts shortly after ICE agents break the glass door to invade the premises. They can be seen climbing the stairs as a woman yells at them from outside. She repeatedly says that she hasn’t seen their badge numbers and that they cannot enter the building in the middle of the night, but the agents ignore her.

After a while, a couple of immigration agents appear and try to enter the building as well. The resident seems to be even angrier, yelling, “You can’t get in here because you don’t *expletive*live here” and saying that the agents could have easily obtained a warrant before entering the property. Later, even more agents approach, continuing to ignore her as they enter through the hole in the glass.

Minnesota Residents Are Outraged by ICE’s Actions in the State

The actions of these ICE agents during the raid enraged online viewers, as they follow what many see as a common pattern of immigration officials in Minnesota disrespecting the law and acting with disproportionate violence: “It’s crazy how they justify this as going after ‘dangerous criminals’ while being the dangerous criminal.”

Some folks wondered who would actually pay for the damages, as ICE will likely not cover them. “I guess it’s the taxpayer and the building owner that get to pay for it,” said one person, explaining that the owners would likely need to pursue their money back via municipal, state, and federal policies.

Others were not hopeful that the state would pay anything, saying that “there are countless stories of cops completely trashing homes during a search warrant. They rarely pay a dime for repairs.” Some commenters also suggested that the damage to the glass door could lead to further issues during the winter, as internal pipes might freeze, and the lack of a door could cause heating bills to rise

Unfortunately for residents who feel terrorized by these actions, ICE raids will continue in Minnesota for the foreseeable future. While the Trump administration has announced the withdrawal of 700 federal immigration agents from the Twin Cities, thousands of agents will remain in the state.
