If there’s one thing internet users are capable of, it’s digging up the truth behind a story. This is exactly what happened after a Florida flight attendant claimed that United Airlines fired him because he was a republican. In a video, he said that he was fired after his coworkers didn’t like the fact that he was sharing his opinions on his own page. Conveniently though, he never mentioned in the video what these opinions were. He was also showing several screenshots where people were criticizing him. The flight attendant then claimed that someone from inside the airline doxxed him and spread his legal name. According to him, the name he used on TikTok wasn’t his real name.
“This person utilized company resources to report me anonymously,” the Florida flight attendant said. He also said that they leaked his phone number. In the caption, the former flight attendant wrote, “Terminated from United airlines after I was and still being bullied on a Facebook page, by FAs that didn’t agree with me being a republican.” In addition to this, he said that he reported how he was a target and that he didn’t feel safe. Since he never actually mentioned what his opinions were, a TikTok user made sure to tell the full story.
The TikTok user replied to the flight attendant’s video and started off by saying that he flies with United and that he is a Premier 1K member. He then revealed the real reason the man was fired. “You got fired because you were racist, sexist, and homophobic, and transphobic. That you were literally talking [expletive] about your coworkers on your public profile, talking about your political beliefs and why people you work with shouldn’t be working there,” he said. He pointed to a video in which the Florida flight attendant shared his views on bathroom access for transgender individuals, a stance that has drawn criticism online. Many commenters argued that the remarks were discriminatory. Companies often maintain social media and conduct policies, and public statements that spark controversy can sometimes conflict with an employer’s stated values.
People Reacting to the Florida Flight Attendant’s Story
Opinions on what happened to the Florida flight attendant were divided. Those who knew the real story were against him, while other Republicans supported him. “You’re not telling the full story…,” one person told him. Another person said, “He didn’t get fired for being a Republican. One of the reasons he got fired for was because he was being a bigot talking so much [expletive] basically.” Someone else said, “because he was publicly saying racist and transphobic [expletive] about his coworkers. That’s not getting fired for political opinions. That’s getting fired for being an [expletive].” One comment also read, “Correct. Corporations aren’t firing ppl for being Republican. They might fire republicans for the gross behavior and beliefs that also come with the territory.”
Those who supported the Florida republican started telling him that he should sue United Airlines. “Um, you can sue and win… just saying,” one person wrote. Another person even canceled their flight because of this video. “Just canceled my united flight and flying with south west next week. I fly A LOT,” they said. This made many people mock them for doing that since they believed that the flight attendant deserved to be fired. Someone else sympathized with him and said, “I’ve heard you say that United Airlines isn’t responsible for this, but if they allowed an employee to manipulate the system to get you fired, they are responsible too. I’m so sorry you’re going through this.” Spreading hate never ends in a good way.
