Mere days after announcing that they’d be partnering with It’s Always Sunny in Philidelphia star Rob McElhenney, Rooster Teeth has revealed they are working with another huge name: Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan. Similar to McElhenney, Jordan will be lending his voice to an upcoming Rooster Teeth animated series, gen:Lock.

The star will play lead character Julian Chase, a next-generation mecha pilot. These giant, futuristic weaponized robots are controlled by humans, very similar to Pacific Rim and Transformers concept wise.

Rooster Teeth

While it may seem odd that such a high profile movie actor would join a smaller scaled produced anime series, Michael B. Jordan’s production company, Outlier Society Productions, will co-produce gen:Lock in association with Rooster Teeth. Head of Rooster Teeth Animation Gray G. Haddock will be in charge of writing and directing the project.

“Michael’s visionary career choices and commitment to meaningful entertainment, not to mention his love of anime, line up perfectly with what drives Rooster Teeth,” Haddock said. “We’re thrilled for the opportunity to do some cool sci-fi storytelling together.”

No premiere date for gen:Lock has been set yet, though it is expected to premiere in late 2018, exclusively on Rooster Teeth’s streaming service, First, with subscriptions starting at $4.99 monthly.

There is no doubt that this summer/fall will be Rooster Teeth’s most dominant Animation run yet. Alongside gen:Lock, hit shows RWBY, Camp Camp, Red vs Blue (already airing), and the newly announced Spikeface are all set to return for new seasons. The company’s other channels, Achievement Hunter and Let’s Play, will also bring in the views, with new videos, podcasts, and original programming airing each week. It’ll be interesting to see which of the current shows that are being tested during “pilot month” will stick around as well.
