Fried chicken is arguably one of the most universal foods out there. Generally, you can expect it to be tasty or at least edible. However, one Pennsylvania man discovered that he received a very hard and questionably edible piece of chicken that he bought from Royal Farms. It was so bad that he decided to record the strangely dark and rock-hard chicken and share it on Reddit.

In the video, the Pennsylvania man showed off the rock-hard Royal Farms chicken, turning it around so viewers could clearly see how off it looked. It was as if the chicken had been cooked in very old oil, or perhaps it had been so overcooked that it appeared completely charred. The man then hit the chicken against his table. Small pieces of breading flew off everywhere as the chicken made a loud knocking sound when it smashed against the hard surface.

That was not enough for the Pennsylvania man to prove just how hard this Royal Farms chicken was. He even pulled out a hammer and began striking the fried chicken several times. The chicken did not flatten under the blows and remained in its original shape. Finally, the man snapped the chicken in half, and shockingly, there was indeed chicken meat inside.

The Pennsylvania man said that the chicken became so hard because of the horrible amount of burning the poor tender was subjected to. “We also haven’t entirely ruled out that it is simply a chunk of asphalt broken off of I-95. The investigation is still ongoing,” the man wrote in his post.

Redditors who saw the video shared the Pennsylvania man’s shock and disgust toward the Royal Farms fried chicken. “Whole new meaning to Impossible chicken,” one user said. Another wrote, “Before you showed the inside, I was partially convinced it was a turd.”

Some users joked that the fried chicken looked more like a fossil than food. One Redditor said, “So it looks like you may actually have a real fossil. Paleontologist here… I’ve been a paleontologist for about negative 20 years now, and anyone standing in my field now would see my house. So given my credentials, I’d like to share with you that this is most certainly a bone of the Chickaneous-wingdipper. They’re worth a bunch on Nextdoor, or Craigslist. Thank you for your time.”

Others asked what Royal Farms even was, which the Pennsylvania man replied was a shady gas station and convenience store spot. One user theorized that the fried chicken might have been a piece that fell into the fryer and missed the basket. “Got fried in the basin of the fryer until it eventually floated up to the top and they still sold it. I’ve been cooking in kitchens for 15 years and I’ve done it plenty of times. Never served it though,” one Redditor explained.
