Shia LaBeouf’s turbulent Mardi Gras arrest has taken another dramatic turn. The actor has now been ordered to attend rehab, submit to drug testing, and post a $100,000 bond following his alleged bar fight in New Orleans. The ruling adds fresh scrutiny to an already explosive case.
Court Tightens Conditions After Arrest
The 39-year-old actor appeared in a packed New Orleans courtroom on Thursday, where Judge Simone Levine revoked his earlier release on his own recognizance. Instead, LaBeouf was required to post a $100,000 bond, enroll in rehab, and undergo regular testing.
As reported by Page Six, the judge reportedly expressed concern about protecting the alleged victims and the broader “marginalized” New Orleans community that has endured significant “terror.” She also noted seeing “quite a lot” of evidence connected to the case after his February 17 release.
Although a drug test reportedly indicated LaBeouf had been taking a prescription potentially responsible for “one of the substances” found in his system, Levine emphasized that alcohol use was her primary concern. His attorney argued there were no illegal substances detected and maintained that getting drunk during Mardi Gras is not against the law.
LaBeouf’s request to travel outside New Orleans was denied, and prosecutors pushed for a stay-away order to keep him from returning to the bar and the alleged victims involved in the incident.
The actor was arrested on two counts of simple battery after allegedly assaulting two men outside a French Quarter dive bar. Video footage showed him headbutting one alleged victim, being struck by others, and yelling homophobic slurs. One courtroom witness said he hopes the star “takes some actions that are supportive of the LGBTQ community that he has harmed so severely.”
Shia LaBeouf’s Court-Ordered Rehab and Bond Fuel Social Media Frenzy
As details of the case spread, social media already erupted some days before the court ruling. “What a weird and sad individual,” one commenter wrote bluntly, calling out the actor. Another added, “It sounds like he fell off the wagon.”
Some reactions were more pointed: “Yes. He loves and hates himself. It’s a crime.” Others questioned the circumstances entirely: “Do you know how [expletive] crazy you have to be to get arrested during Mardi gras?”
A different voice struck a somber tone: “He’s obviously mentally ill. This is not normal behavior.” Meanwhile, a witness seated near LaBeouf during the hearing said he “seemed a little nervous,” adding, “I was actually sitting right next to him in one of the pews, and he was doing some prayers. I saw him crossing himself a few times, and he seemed pretty upset at the court’s ruling.” LaBeouf’s next court date is set for March 19.
