‘Absolutely Unhinged’ Illinois Customer Orders 88 Drinks on DoorDash but Gets Four Drinks and Can of Pineapple Juice Instead: ‘Resolved It by Taking Away the Driver’s Tip’

The replacement had been downsized to the extreme

When it comes to DoorDash’s replacements or substitutes for an order, many feel as though the delivery service and its drivers are always in the wrong. However, in one Illinois customer’s case, many internet users felt as though he was at fault, not just for his order, but for what he allegedly stated happened to his payment to the delivery person. Posting to r/mildlyinfuriating, the individual claimed he ordered 88 drinks on DoorDash, only to receive substantially fewer than the amount. “And then support resolved it by taking away the driver’s tip,” they added.

The Illinois customer’s DoorDash order was supposed to be 8 packs of Gatorade and 24 packs of other drinks. Instead, they received two bottles of Gatorade, a 7-Up, Fiji water, and a large can of pineapple juice. “Support gave me a full refund, but it sounds like part of that is from adjusting the tip to zero,” they explained. “Sorry Ezatullah, I didn’t mean to screw you over, also a really cool name,” they remarked, jokingly apologizing to the driver. However, the top commenters on Reddit were quick to correct the customer’s assumption.

I ordered 88 drinks on Doordash, the store gave me this, and then support resolved it by taking away the driver's tip.

“DoorDash doesn’t revoke tips, don’t worry. They’ll refund you it but they just eat the cost,” an individual explains. “Yes they’ll still get paid in full including tip,” verifies another. As shocking as it might sound to some, the company, similar to Amazon, will just write-off its mistake and eat the costs since it makes expotentionally more by retaining customers.

Needless to say, drivers working for DoorDash and those more sympathetic to drivers criticized the Illinois customer’s excessive order. One person calculated that they ordered 120 pounds of liquids, based on the 8 and 24 packs in the initial delivery. “Ordering 88 drinks through DoorDash is mildly infuriating,” groaned another commenter. “Ordering 88 drinks off DoorDash is absolutely unhinged behavior,” said a second. Others questioned why people are using the service at all, considering its infamy online.

Regardless, both the driver and customer had a good ending from this delivery to an extent. The driver got their payment and tip, while the customer received a full refund and a few free drinks. Plenty of other DoorDash deliveries have not ended so peacefully.
