‘Anything But Giving Them to the Poor’: California Customer Calls Out Krispy Kreme Over Massive Donut Waste

There should be a way to avoid so much waste

Normally, we never care about the things we see in garbage bins. After all, we consider it all to be waste and ready for disposal. However, there are some cases where the “waste” could have actually helped someone. We’re saying this because recently, a man in California found dozens of Krispy Kreme donuts in the trash. While the one filming was shocked at this, especially since the donuts didn’t seem to be in a bad state, it also sparked outrage from viewers, as these donuts could have helped people without homes.

The TikToker Natienamdar shared a video showing him, along with another person, discovering dozens of Krispy Kreme donuts in the trash outside a mall in Fremont, California. As you can see, when the individuals approach, they say, “This is crazy,” as the camera pans to the mountain of donuts inside the bin. We’re not exaggerating when we call this a mountain of donuts, as almost the whole bin seems to be full of these pastries, which makes us think there were over a hundred of these sweet treats there.

The man then says, “No, Krispy Kreme, this is unacceptable. I would have loved these donuts.” The truth is, there’s a good point in his reaction, as many individuals, especially those living on the street, could have benefited from the company donating the donuts to them.

While many TikTok users joked about the donuts — with some arguing that the ones that hadn’t touched the steel still looked perfectly edible — others expressed disappointment at the waste. Several commenters noted that the pastries could have been donated to people in need instead.

While businesses aren’t obligated to donate surplus food, many felt it would have been a kinder alternative. With so many people struggling day to day, even a small gesture — like sharing a sweet treat — could have made a meaningful difference. However, and sounding a bit like the devil’s advocate, we don’t know the state of these donuts. Maybe they were about to go bad and were a waste. It’s something only those in the establishment know, but frankly, watching all these donuts go to waste instead of helping someone is pretty sad.
