A hair salon in Los Angeles, California, is going viral for all the wrong reasons after a woman claimed that one of their stylists damaged her hair during an appointment that was supposed to be a simple color treatment before installing extensions.
The customer shared her experience on TikTok, saying that she had recently visited a salon in West Hollywood to get tape-in extensions and asked the stylist to apply a semi-permanent dark gloss so her natural hair would blend with the bundles. Even though they had agreed the dye would stay on for only about 15 minutes because of how sensitive the customer’s hair was, the woman claims it was left on for much longer.
“I sat in the chair for about 25 to 30 minutes and she never came and checked on me once,” she said in her TikTok video. “Now, if you’re putting color in someone’s hair, I feel like you need to be, like, checking and making sure everything’s okay.” She said after the stylist finally washed it out, her hair looked patchy and lighter in several areas. “My hair was orange, brown, black all over.”
Customer Says Stylist Used the Wrong Dye
The customer claims that she later found out the product used on her hair was actually a permanent blonde dye. And instead of admitting her fault, the stylist immediately involved a manager.
According to the customer, the manager who came over then tried to “gaslight” her. He allegedly told her the reason her hair had turned out that way was that “the salon is warm in here and your roots just lifted.” That explanation, she said, made no sense because the entire purpose of the treatment had been to darken her hair rather than lighten it.
“I specifically asked for a semi permanent dark gloss wash. I don’t know why we keep using the word lifted. There was nothing to lift. Like, she bleached my hair,” she said. The situation ended up making the woman emotional as, according to her explanation in the video, she had spent the last three years working to restore the health of her hair after previous damage.
The salon eventually proposed dyeing the hair back dark and proceeding with the extensions. They even suggested she could wear a wig instead. When she asked whether the salon would cover the cost since they allegedly caused the damage, she was told the wig service would still cost about $800, even with a discount.
That threw her off, and she immediately left the salon without completing the appointment.
Internet Reacts to the Viral Salon Incident
In her comments, thousands of netizens reacted with shock and anger toward the salon staff. “If u don’t sue them im blocking you 😩😩,” one person wrote. “Her saying 800 dollars woulda had me jumping over the counter,” another commented. “They really don’t care about their clients it’s all about the money with them,” a third remarked. “Salons are notorious for gaslighting their clients when things go wrong,” said a fourth.
Following the backlash, the owner of the California salon posted a video publicly apologizing to the woman. In his statement, he said the situation was unacceptable and confirmed the stylist involved had been suspended. He also said the woman had already been given a refund and that he had been trying to contact her directly to resolve the issue.
