Pennsylvania Woman Gets Two-For-One Deal at Dollar Tree: Penny Items and a Karen’s Scorn, ‘She’s fighting like it’s her things’

Why is she so upset?

With how tight people need to be with their money these days, getting a deal feels like you’ve beat the system. You found a deal no-one, or so few, have found. There’s the clearance isle at Walmart and Target, for example. But Dollar Tree has one too, a sort of clearance isle that’s there but not actually there. There’s even a phrase for it: penny items. When one woman in Pennsylvania struck gold with her find, the manager at Dollar Tree didn’t seem too thrilled.

“Why are you so upset?” Danais (TikTok/pennywithdanais) asks the Dollar Tree manager ringing up her “penny items.” These are items in Dollar Tree that are discounted down to a single penny. It usually includes products that have been discounted or surplus. Even something as useful as a pack of toilet paper can be bought for a single penny.

“This is what people do with their time,” you can hear the manager say in Danais’s TikTok video. She says it like Danais is wasting her time, and denounces the “penny thing.” But Danais fires back that she’s donating these items. “Do you know how much stuff I found in the dumpster?” Danais asks. The manager argues it’s “illegal” but Danais says otherwise. And she’s right—it’s not explicitly illegal, but context is important, like dumpster diving on private property (and without permission).

Before the video ends, Danais gets one last word in, telling the manager she’ll be “reporting” this and she’d be getting a call from “corporate.” Dollar Tree has responded to posts like this in the past, but none could be found at this time.

People Didn’t Have a Single Nice Thing to Say About the Dollar Tree Manager

One of the top comments reads, “Girl, scan these 73 items and take this dollar so I can get out of here!” Why is she making it so difficult to begin with?

Another commenter wrote that they were “convinced” the manager was angry because Danais had found their “stash.” One TikTok shared a similar sentiment when she wrote, “She’s fighting like it’s her things.” Honestly, if that was the case, I’d be pretty mad, too. But hey, it’s on me then if someone found it anyway!

One commenter shared their experience as an employee of Dollar Tree that she does “personally love” when people find penny items. “They be so excited,” she says. That’s the attitude you need! Wishing good fortune on others pays back double.

Another commenter asked, “Is it coming out of her pocket?” and wondered whether she owned the store. And that could explain the hostility. But what makes it worse is that she was so hostile despite Dapais making it known it was for charity. It’s going to those who need it most!
