There’s a quiet understanding between teachers and students. You trust your teacher, you feel safe, and you believe the classroom is a place where nothing bad should happen to you. That’s just how it’s supposed to be. When someone breaks that trust, it shakes the whole community. And something along those lines transpired in California this week.
A viral video shows Casey Snyder walking around a classroom. As per the overlaying text on the video, he used to teach social science and coach basketball at Corcoran High School in California. He is holding a clipboard and a pen, weaving through the rows of desks.
At first, nothing seems off. Then you look closer, and it’s clear the clipboard isn’t just for show. Snyder angles what looks like a phone over the top of it, snapping photos and recording students while they have no idea. Someone posted the clip to social media, calling Snyder out by name. They pointed out that he taught freshmen and sophomores and coached basketball at the school.
What takes this story to another level is what happens at the end of the video. The school district’s own documents, which pop up in the clip, show that during a meeting on May 22, 2025, Snyder admitted he had been using his phone in class for a “different job.”
When someone asked if there was anything on his phone that shouldn’t be there, he shrugged it off, said, “I don’t know, there might be.” He flat-out refused to let anyone see his phone or hand it over for review.
But it gets worse. According to those documents, at a certain point in the video, Snyder actually moves his phone so the camera lens peeks over his clipboard. He then points it straight at a female student’s chest. He stares at her chest a few more times, fiddling with his phone.
When they called him out and asked what he was doing right then, Snyder claimed he was “probably still texting, or scrolling on Instagram.” He was then advised that if Instagram posts existed to support his claim, he could submit them as evidence. He allegedly said nothing.
People on social media reacted with disgust. Most couldn’t believe what the teacher did and called for him to get fired. A lot of folks said creeps like that have no business being around kids. Some pointed out that stuff like this seems to be happening more and more, like there’s no job left that’s safe from people like him. At the same time, a bunch of people gave credit to the student for being sharp enough to catch him on video.

The clip sparked outrage online, with many viewers disturbed by what they saw. “So unbelievably conspicuous and gross. Imagine being a girl in class and some guy in a position of authority is actively hovering around you staring and perving out while recording you,” one person wrote.
Others reflected on how common these situations can feel. “One of the worst parts of growing up has been finding out how many creeps there really are,” a user commented. Another added, “How does someone go through school to become a teacher and still see their pupils as prey?”
Some viewers focused on the student who filmed the moment. “The fact that the poor girl that’s recording started recording in the first place suggests this is a regular occurrence,” one person wrote. Another said, “I like that the girl was self aware enough and smart to start recording what he was doing.”
A few comments also highlighted how serious the situation could become. “If I were asked if there’s anything on my phone or computer that shouldn’t be there, my answer would be ‘Hell no,’” one user added.
A classroom should be the one place where students feel completely safe, where they don’t have to glance over their shoulder, ever. But between what’s in these documents and what’s on that video, it’s clear that trust got shattered.
