A Georgia mother, who unfortunately went through three different miscarriages, all varying in type, shocked thousands when she decided to share how much the procedures cost. In total, the woman must pay a six-figure bill, exposing how the United States healthcare and insurance work.
The woman in question is influencer India Baston. While nonchalantly sitting in her car, she provided the details of each of her miscarriages, focusing her attention on the medical bills she got after such traumatic experiences. She called them “astronomically expensive.”
Her first pregnancy loss was a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. This is a pregnancy that happens outside of the uterus, according to the Cleveland Clinic. In the case of India, hers was life-threatening, as it ruptured, meaning that one of her fallopian tubes broke. Her total? $59,409.98, the most expensive one of the bunch.
“I am still dealing with the grief of my first pregnancy loss,” the Georgia woman said. “But I am also still trying to settle that bill because my insurance is arguing with me that I could have gone to a different hospital, where it would have been cheaper.”
Just months later, India got pregnant again. Unfortunately, she lost her pregnancy, but this time it was a missed miscarriage. The Miscarriage Association defines this type of miscarriage as one where the baby died or did not develop, but has not physically miscarried.
As a result, mothers are left with no symptoms, and these miscarriages are often detected during ultrasounds. That’s what happened to India, and her subsequent surgery cost $23,411. Her third pregnancy loss, though, was the cheapest, all thanks to a “discounted rate” of $18,241.
In total, India, who is still dealing with the grief of her miscarriages, was left with a $101,560.98 bill.
Clip Goes Viral, Reactions
The Georgia mother’s clip went viral, garnering 765,200 views and 76,100 likes. Users were astounded by how expensive her surgeries were.
“Genuine question, what are taxes used for in America?” one user asked. Another one said, “Your insurance isn’t insuring.” A third one commented, “People are always slamming how much taxes we have to pay. But I’d rather pay a reasonable amount of taxes and have my medical included.”
Despite her miscarriages, India managed to move on, always keeping her angel babies in her heart. She is now a mother to a lovely boy, as shown in a recent clip, as well as two dogs.
