An Atlanta, Georgia woman says she didn’t realize she had been filmed during a brief conversation at her daughter’s basketball game until weeks later, when the clip suddenly appeared online with millions of views.
Lindsay Page, who posts online under the name Conservagirl, shared her reaction after discovering that a TikTok user wearing Meta smart glasses had recorded their interaction without telling her.
After exiting the bathroom, she encountered her daughter with a man she believed was one of her daughter’s friends. The man, TikTok creator dihmason, approached Page and introduced himself while filming the interaction. The video’s caption reads, “Day 1 rizzing moms.” He said, “I just wanna let you know that you’re a very beautiful young lady.“
The Georgia woman thanked him, and Mason asked her if she was married. After she confirmed she was not, Mason asked if she was in a relationship. She was not, and Mason suggested maybe they could work something out between the two. Lindsay and her daughter laughed, and the 25-second clip ended.
According to her, at one point during the conversation, her daughter told her that Mason was wearing Meta glasses. She didn’t know what those glasses were at the time, so she didn’t pay much attention to them. Meta smart glasses allow users to take photos and record video using a small built-in camera in the frame. The devices also include speakers and voice commands, allowing users to capture moments hands-free.
More than a month later, she found that the clip had millions of views, hundreds of thousands of likes, and hundreds of comments. Lindsay then asked her followers, “Should people be allowed to film strangers with Meta glasses without telling them? Would you feel like that’s an invasion of your privacy? Where is this tech gonna take us in the future? Would you be ok with this happening to you? Would you be ok with your kids having a pair of these Meta glasses? Is this the future, or is this a privacy problem?“
Debate Erupts, Politics Called Out
The Georgia woman’s clip itself went viral, garnering 2.1 million views and more than 71,800 likes. Some users believed that the recording was inappropriate, with one user saying, “Meta glasses are creep tech. I’ll never change my mind.” Others said that there was no expectation of privacy in public, even though the encounter occurred near a bathroom area at the school.
A group, however, didn’t feel bad for Lindsay whatsoever. The reason? She is a Trump supporter, and many emphasized that fact in the comments. One user wrote, “Almost felt bad for a second.” Another one commented, “Seeing this and then your third pinned video.”
The video has since sparked a wider debate online about wearable cameras, privacy in public spaces, and how quickly everyday moments can go viral.
