Have you ever been walking through a local supermarket and you see someone with a dog? While some shoppers rely on legitimate service animals, others may occasionally abuse the rule. After all, a service dog offers valuable utility. Well, one California security guard wasn’t about to let anybody get injured by a possible fake security dog. He decided to warn two show-goers as they entered a California collectible show in an act of welcomed kindness.
TikTok user Pluto_theservicedog (Natalie) shared an interaction she had with a security guard outside a Frank & Sons Collectible Show in Rowland Heights. There was a clear ‘no pets’ sign posted outside the show. He asked them if Pluto was a service animal, to which they answered, “Yes.” He then proceeded to ask them the question every employee is allowed to ask: “What task could the animal be trained to perform?” They answered that Pluto is a service dog for a “hearing alert.”
From there, the security guard gives Natalie friendly heads-up. He said there was a chihuahua taken into the show and questions their service status. He leans forward, “There is a chihuahua in a black stroller. I doubt the validity of it being a true service animal. So I’m just letting you know.” Natalie asks, “If he does anything to disrupt us, will you guys be kicking him out?” He very kindly nods and assures them, “Yes.”
The security guard tells them honestly he’s just looking out for them and is “very protective.” He goes on to say, “My mom has a seizure dog” and he takes this as seriously as possible. Unfortunately, as he notes, all a person has to do is “say the magic words” and they’re permitted to bring a dog into a show. It’s not permitted for them to ask for official paperwork in these areas and basically all somebody needs to do is answer the questions.
Nata proceed into the show with this knowledge. She laughs as she whispers she was thankful for the man’s warning. However, she says, “I’m now really nervous about it because I’m like, on the lookout of ‘where the heck is this dog. Please don’t come near us.’”
How People React to Natalie’s TikTok Video
Luckily, it doesn’t appear Pluto and Natalie ran into any problems with an alleged fake service dog. More importantly, we need more friendly security guards like that! People on TikTok were over the moon with his genuine kindness.
One commenter pointed out, “He just knew you were legit.” Pluto was in full gear too, so he was clocked in and everything. Another commenter apparently thought it was ridiculous, though. They asked, “You’re worried about a chihuahua… in a stroller?” Natalie replied, “Yeah, because if someone is irresponsible enough to fake a service dog I don’t want to know how much more irresponsible they are and how it could potentially affect my actual service dog who I rely on a daily basis.”
It’s important to note that faking a service animal can be incredibly dangerous, especially if the dog is reactive around people or other dogs, not to mention the potential fines if you’re caught.
