Trips to Big Bear Lake are supposed to be a chance for families to unwind, enjoy the outdoors, and make lasting memories. But for one California family, the trip took an unexpected turn when another woman allegedly took their sled and then denied it. The incident was captured on camera by the child’s mother and is now making the rounds online.
The video takes place in the snowy mountains around Big Bear Lake, and sees another mother comforting her daughter next to a sled. Narrating the video is the California mom, who claims the woman she’s filming “stole” her 2-year-old’s sled. “So this woman decided she wanted to steal my baby’s sled, and then her baby got hurt. Watch it all happen.” she explains at the start.
The footage then jumps back to earlier, where the mom is seen filming from inside her car with one of her daughters. “Is that man talking to Rose?” the mom questions, as she watches another family playing with a sled. “Is that our sled?” the daughter asks, before the mom begins wondering about how many sleds they have in the back of their vehicle. Next, you can hear voices outside as the son, who is allegedly autistic, politely asks “Excuse me, is that yours?” though according to the caption, the other family simply ignores his question.
The mom, who was watched the scene unfold, begins to get a little annoyed, and exits her car to count how many sleds she has, before confronting the other mother, saying, “Excuse me, is that yours?” The video tells us that the other family’s mother yelled back with an “attitude” that it is indeed her sled, and then shows the mom counting her sleds. “I came here with five, and now I have four. That looks just like mine, but she says that they’re hers.”
Moments later, the video shows the aftermath, with the other mother’s daughter having been hurt while playing on the sled. The California mom continues to narrate, stating, “Daughter just got hurt. That’s like street karma.” though the caption accompanying this moment reads, “I felt so bad for the little girl but still that [expletive] was not okay.” Although the family doesn’t seem to recover their sled, the video leaves the issue unresolved.
Social media reactions poured in: many supported the California mom at the center of the incident, while others criticized her for being too harsh in denying the other family access to her sled. On Reddit, one person wrote, “All kids involved will remember this moment for how [expletive] the adults were acting rather than being upset about the sled.” while another added, “I’m not with the little girl getting hurt as karma. She’s just a baby. It’s not her fault her mom is a thief“.
A third netizen penned, “Imagine beefing with children playing. Grow up.” and a fourth declared, “I could just imagine people stealing a sled and when their kid gets hurt, they try to sue the people they stole it from.”
Clearly, the incident has sparked a heated online debate about parenting boundaries, holiday etiquette, and the challenges of managing children in public spaces. Ultimately, and I think we can all agree on this: taking someone else’s belongings, especially from a child, is simply wrong and sets a bad example.
