Lately, more clips like this have shown how travelers react to seeing ICE agents at airports around the country. Federal officials started sending ICE staff to more than a dozen airports because TSA is short on workers right now. Thousands of TSA agents have stopped showing up or quit during the ongoing government shutdown.

ICE agents aren’t doing security checks. They are mainly dealing with crowd control and moving things along, hoping to keep the lines shorter and flights on time. Officials say this helps with the chaos, but not everyone agrees. Travelers and lawmakers are split on whether it’s the right call.

The clip shows a traveler responding casually when asked about ICE agents at the airport. He says, “All right, you’re good to get help. You’re not bothering nobody. The only thing you can check my bags and get me on my flight… I wanna get to the Bahamas. I wanna get out of here.”

Officials say ICE agents at airports aren’t doing the usual TSA screenings, that takes special training. Instead, they are helping with crowd control, watching entrances, and just keeping things running smoothly.

Still, their presence makes some people uneasy, especially when it comes to immigration enforcement showing up in places meant for public travel. Recently, videos from airports like Newark have gone viral, with some heated encounters. The public feels pretty split about this whole situation.

Internet reacts to ICE at Newark Airport in New Jersey

The clip quickly sparked a range of reactions online, with some viewers pushing back on the traveler’s perspective. “There are videos of ICE standing around doing nothing in airports. They’re not trained to do TSA jobs and their assignments to airports is Trump being gimmicky,” one person wrote.

Others questioned the effectiveness of the deployment, suggesting the agents were not actively contributing. “The point is they do nothing but collect paychecks. Why wouldn’t we pay TSA so they can be back to their job?” a user commented. Another added, “They’re not bothering nobody… Yes I agree. It appears they are getting paid to do almost nothing. That’s federal employment for ya.”

Some comments focused on what the agents appear to be doing in these situations. “They are directing traffic. Thats about it,” one person wrote, while another said, “They are handing out water.”

At the same time, others pointed out that reactions may differ depending on location. “Clearly he hasn’t seen what happened in San Francisco,” one comment read.
