An Oklahoma man shocked thousands of online users when he shared a video of his car exploding while he was driving on the interstate. He was heading home from the airport when his engine locked up, causing oil to enter the engine bay. The vehicle burst into flames, but he was fortunately quick enough to escape without any major injuries.
The nearly fatal accident’s survivor goes by VolosThanatos on Reddit, where he uploaded the video of his car engulfed in flames on r/Wellthatsucks. He claims he had the oil changed 6 days before this happened and checked for any leaks before he left his house. Plenty of Redditors were appalled by the damage but shared their relief that he miraculously wasn’t hurt; some even took the opportunity to poke a little fun.
“You can’t park here,” sarcastically sighed one commenter. “It doesn’t seem too bad,” laughed another. “That last electric fart actually cracked me up a bit,” chuckled a third, referring to when the fire on the roof sparked up near the end of the video. “I’m gonna call the fact that you’re able to stand that far away from it filming it and weren’t trapped inside a win,” remarked a fourth.
The Survivor Humorously Claimed This Incident Was a Nice Chance to Buy a New Car
While experiencing and surviving such a life-threatening event would have left anyone shaken, VolosThanatos kept his sense of humor. He allegedly told the firefighters to “watch the paint” as they put the fire out and also replied to the commenter about the “electric fart,” saying that he found it “quite funny.” After all, the car was already “paid off and old,” he said.
The loss of VolosThanatos’ car turned out to be a blessing in disguise, he claims, saying that “I was already planning on getting a new car, this just sped up the process.” In a happy ending, he left an update response in the comments, saying that he bought a 2004 Jaguar X-Type to replace his now well-cooked Nissan.
