Michigan Judge Stunned By Defendant’s Audacity to Drive While Attending Virtual Court: ‘You Lied To Me’

It’s so obvious

A Detroit, Michigan woman ran into some trouble recently when she had to appear in virtual court. Instead of attending in a nice, safe area of her home, she decided to do so from a moving vehicle. The judge was not having it, and was utterly floored when the defendant then tried to lie.

Posted by Hon. Michael K. McNally’s official YouTube channel, the judge recorded the tense interaction between him and the defendant. The woman can be seen in her vehicle and the background is very clearly moving behind her. The judge says to her, “You cannot be driving, ma’am. What are you doing? Come on.” However, the woman says differently. She tries to explain to the judge she’s just a passenger.

The judge isn’t falling for it, though. He leans in to the screen and asks, “Am I crazy or does it not look like you’re driving that car?” She tries to assert that she isn’t driving and is on the left-hand side of the vehicle as a passenger. He asks her how she’s on the left-hand side if she’s a passenger in the vehicle. She then tries to backtrack and says, “Right-hand side. I’m sorry.”

The judge won’t let matters go until he gets to the bottom of this mystery. He points out that her seatbelt is “coming off of the driver’s side.” If she’s trying to get away with it, she’s not doing a very good job. The judge demands, “Let me see the driver” and the woman completely stops talking.

Judge Michael asks her again to pan her camera over to the driver. But because she is the driver, she just gets out of her vehicle and gives up the façade. The judge asks her, “Do you think I’m that stupid?” He adds that he’s entering a default judgment against her and says, “You lied to me.”

People Were Bewildered the Defendant Would Try to Lie

The hilarious but bewildering video gained major attention on social media, with commenters amazed by this woman’s audacity. Even if you could drive while attending virtual court, why would you?

A clip of the interaction made it to TMZ, where one commenter wrote, “So lying to a judge is wild,” especially when it was so blatant. Another commenter wondered why she wasn’t also charged with “distracted driving.” You could seriously hurt someone if you aren’t paying attention.

Other commenters failed to take a side, with one stating, “Online court meetings are a joke.” Hey, gas is expensive! One TikTok user joked, saying, “She’s not driving. She’s traveling.”

The video continues to gain attention on social media, with commenters leaving hilarious quips and either calling out the woman for her actions or standing up for her.
