Golfing legend Tiger Woods was involved in a rollover crash in Florida, according to local authorities. He has since been arrested and charged with driving under the influence in connection with the incident.

Tiger Woods involved in rollover crash in Florida

As reported by WPTV, citing the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred near 281 Beach Road on Jupiter Island, Florida. At around 2 p.m., authorities responded to the crash scene, and, as shown in a photo taken by the outlet, a Range Rover was found on its side.

TMZ cited an eyewitness who was at the scene at the time of the Florida crash, who said that the incident involved two vehicles. The witness reportedly saw Tiger at the scene and said that no one involved was seriously injured.

Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek then revealed that Tiger showed “signs of impairment,” CBS Sports detailed. Allegedly, while he agreed to a Breathalyzer test, he refused to provide a urine sample. As a result, he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, property damage, and refusal to submit a lawful test.

Past Driving Incidents

This incident comes more than five years after Tiger was involved in a serious single-car accident in California. The golfer suffered open fractures to the right leg, and surgery was required. According to a statement shared by Tiger, a rod was inserted into his tibia, and further injuries were stabilized “with a combination of screws and pins.”

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva revealed in a news conference that Tiger was driving at 84 to 87 mph in a 45 mph zone, ABC News reported at the time. Villanueva revealed that Tiger had accidentally hit the accelerator, mistaking it for the brake. This led to him crashing into a tree.

Years before the California accident, in 2017, Tiger Woods was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, ABC News reported. This occurred in Jupiter, Florida, close to where his latest crash took place. Woods was then released and apologized for the incident.

Online Reactions

Reactions to Tiger’s later crash were many. Some users referenced the previous crash, with one user saying, “5 years later and it happens again. Oh my.” Similarly, another commenter said, “Dude just needs to stop driving.”

Other users chose to wish for Tiger’s well-being and recovery, with one person writing, “Prayers to Tiger.” Another one agreed, saying, “I hope he’s okay for his sake and his family. Thoughts and prayers.”

As per Reuters, given that Tiger’s charges are all misdemeanors, he will remain in prison for at least eight hours. Then, the golfing legend will be released on bond.
