A 62-year-old man in Carlsbad, California, has been accused of following and filming a 16-year-old girl. The girl’s father and mother have each confronted the man in question, as seen in multiple clips. Shockingly, the man’s son, a 31-year-old man, appeared to defend his father, saying that he was a married man and that he had suggested that his father ask the girl out on a date.
The case was shared online by multiple accounts, including etchaskej (Ed) on TikTok. This content creator, in particular, shares viral stories and usually comments on a variety of events, often political ones. His clips involving the aforementioned California man, however, have garnered around 450,000 views on TikTok.
The very first clip shows the girl’s father confronting the 62-year-old man, who has been identified as John F. Mann. As the father approached John’s vehicle, the clip shows John recording the 16-year-old. He defended himself by saying he was recording the sky, although no sky could be seen on his phone.
Girl’s Mother Speaks Out
In a follow-up clip, however, Ed provided some more context, going straight to the source by sharing a screenshot of a comment made by Holly Sanders, who is reportedly the girl’s mother. She alleged that John had followed her daughter multiple times on the way to school since early March.
According to her, the police eventually visited John. Allegedly, they found images and videos of the 16-year-old on his phone. However, as per Holly, they gave him his phone back, and the police suggested they file a restraining order against him. Reportedly, the order has been filed.
With that being said, John’s son, 31-year-old Nate, according to Ed’s clip, appeared to have commented in another creator’s clip. There, he explained that his father is “happily married” and that the “narrative” is “incorrect and not acceptable.”
“He suggested I ask her out on a date,” the California son allegedly wrote, and then threatened to press charges if the speculation didn’t stop.
In Ed’s latest clip on the matter, the girl’s mother ran into John at a weapons store. In his own words, it appears that the police instructed him to surrender his weapon. John’s wife and Nate were also at the store.

The case sparked immediate backlash and passionate responses.
Users were quick to blast the 62-year-old California man, with one user saying, “This is so disgusting. I hope this gets spread all over the internet and everyone knows who he really is.” Others praised the father for defending her daughter, with one viewer commenting, “Thank goodness her dad caught him! This video is amazing.”
Some others pointed out that Nate is reportedly a Marine, with one user saying, “You can report Nate to his Marine unit. They do take that stuff seriously.” Finally, some even blasted John’s wife, given that she accompanied John to the weapons store. One user said, “Sad that his Filipino wife just goes with it.”
The sensitive nature of the accusations and the reaction they naturally spark easily explains why content created around it has gone viral. Furthermore, content creators identifying and exposing those accused of similar behavior is a trend that never ceases to be popular.
For the time being, it is unclear if John F. Mann will be facing any charges.
