California Patrol Officer Rams Flipped Car Across Lanes, Sparks Questions: ‘That Can’t Be Department Policy’

Quick thinking or reckless move?

Officers of the California Highway Patrol took care of a scene in a way that seemed surprising, sparking chatter from citizens online. The video on TikTok opened with a wreck on the highway, showing a white vehicle upside down. A highway patrol car could be seen at the scene, and the officer got to work immediately. He stopped cars moving on the road by signaling with his hands for them to halt, just to make way to move the car off the road.

However, their style of handling the situation was rather fascinating, as instead of using a tow vehicle to get the vehicle off the road, they took matters into their own hands on the spot. The patrol car was used to ram the vehicle off the road across about four lanes of traffic to the side. While this was being done, another patrol car arrived at the scene, and a patrol officer stepped out and also used his legs to push certain debris off the road.

After pushing the car to the edge of the road, it didn’t end there. The patrol officer reversed and rammed the car again in order to position it properly by the roadside. While this was happening, a man stood at the corner of the road and appeared to be the owner of the vehicle, watching as it was parked properly to the side.

Patrol Officers’ Method Of Clearing Wreck Sparks Debate

Netizens stormed the comment section to react to the scene. However, they were not of one voice, as opinions were divided. While some thought it wasn’t appropriate to move the car off the road that way, describing the act as reckless, others believed it was a smart move to quickly clear the road and ease traffic.

Those who didn’t support the action came in full force, as one user doubted whether that was department policy. “That can’t be department policy,” a user wrote.

Others gave a more detailed analysis of the scene, stating that a better way of towing a car should exist in 2026, as the method used appeared hazardous. “That video from Riverside is wild – CHP patrol car straight-up bulldozing an upside-down flipped car across four lanes of live freeway like it’s a hockey puck🔥.” A netizen saw the move as a way to create more traffic, while another called for strict punishment of the officers involved: “These are acts that place themselves above the law, and they must be condemned and dealt with as soon as possible.” Someone else criticized the situation from a cost perspective, suggesting that the method used to tow the car might have been cheaper.

On the other hand, some supported the action, defending the highway patrol as unarguably efficient. “Our highway patrol is way better than other states when it comes to safety and securing the scene after an accident. Other states should watch and learn,” this user praised. “CHP reopened the freeway. What’s the confusion? I’m sure those stuck in traffic were grateful to finally move on,” another comment read.

This scene clearly shows how swiftly officials responded to the situation. However, regardless of the urgency, it is not unexpected that officials uphold standards in the best possible way they can.
