A tenant of a Minnesota home was very concerned to discover that their maintenance worker was dumping trash unsuitable for flushing into the toilet. The man was recaulking the shower but decided to throw away the old pieces into the toilet bowl like a trash can. Tens of thousands of users slammed the worker for being lazy and irresponsible, possibly creating more problems than when he arrived for repairs.
“We’ve been having plumbing issues in our building for months; [I’m] pretty sure I know why now,” sighed Hour-Bee9396, the Reddit user who shared a photo of their caulk-filled toilet on r/mildlyinfuriating. Thankfully, they had cleaning gloves to remove the pieces themselves, but they still felt annoyed that the worker would do something so careless. Countless commenters shared their stories of how an incompetent maintenance man ironically made their lives worse.
Redditors Believe The Caulk Could Have Done Serious Damage to the Plumbing
“Just take this picture and go to the front office with it,” says a Redditor. “This is unacceptable and could potentially cause thousands of dollars of damage.” Hour-Bee9396 claimed that they had already reported the worker, considering the trouble they could have gotten into on his behalf. “That person shouldn’t be in people’s homes doing that job,” remarked another.
What many found very infuriating is that there’s a trash bin clearly visible to the right of the toilet. However, the maintenance man decided to opt for the toilet, making his knowledge and expertise of the trade questionable. “He’s sure doing his part to keep himself employed and busy, huh? He just forgot to flush this time,” joked a commenter.
An unfortunate aspect of this story is that the tenant claimed to have been extra nice to him for coming over to recaulk the shower. “I even baked cookies the night before and gave him one. I’m so annoyed,” they sighed regretfully.
It goes without saying that caulk is used to seal bathroom utilities like showers and toilets from moisture. Putting water-resistant sealant into a toilet, even if it’s old and dry, isn’t the best idea for any building’s plumbing.
