One of the most awaited survival games of the year has finally docked, and we’re talking about Windrose. After a surprising count of over 1 million wishlists, many will be rushing to set sail and go off on this new pirate adventure. However, those playing with friends might want to tweak some things first. If you want to host a server for your fellow crewmates, here are some recommendations for the best server settings in Windrose.
Best Settings For Your Co-Op Server in Windrose
Compared to other survival games, Windrose simplifies many of its server settings to let players jump straight into some pirate action. However, that doesn’t mean they are basic, as tailoring some of these options can make the journey with others more fun and more challenging if they wish to do so.
First, you should know that all server settings allow you to pick between the three difficulty levels: Calm Waters (Easy), High Seas (Normal), and Storm’s Edge (Hard). Then, you have the final option, which is Captain’s Choice (Custom).
When setting up a co-op game for your friends, we recommend playing in normal difficulty for two players and hard difficulty for four players and above. Yet, if you want to tune some finer details, here are the settings we recommend for your custom server in Windrose:
- Combat Difficulty: Hard
- Enemy Health Modifier: 200%
- Enemy Damage Modifier: 150%
- Enemy Ships Health Modifier: 150%
- Enemy Ships Damage Modifier: 150%
- Boarding Difficulty: 100%
The above settings are aimed toward a crew of four players, and there’s some reasoning behind it. First, the 200% health modifier for enemies makes them take more hits, naturally, but with four players, it feels pretty balanced. For damage, we went with 150% because the early combat is already punishing with Dodos being able to kill you in two hits, so a small bump feels better with a large crew.
In terms of the enemy ships’ health and damage, we only bumped them a bit, as they already feel challenging when in 100%, so this extra 50% will give you that extra challenge without making it extremely punishing. And lastly, we didn’t change anything for boarding difficulty, as there’s no need to bump that up, especially since you’ll get the real challenge before and after boarding the enemy ship.
Lastly, the Immersive Exploration setting is available to everyone, but we try to keep it on when playing co-op, as we believe it is a bit more engaging. Speaking of co-op, we didn’t tweak with the final settings, as an extra 100% in enemy health and posture per player in the server seems fair.
However, if you feel some enemies or enemy ships are too weak or too strong, you can always play with these options at any moment. You just need to restart the server, modify these options, and jump back in.
