An Uber driver in Florida sparked outrage online after sharing a tense confrontation with a passenger that allegedly resulted in her being banned. Using the title “STOP asking your driver to do illegal things,” Reddit user Chemical_Store1560 posted to r/uber about how they dealt with a mother who was willing to illegally put her child at risk. She was reported after refusing to comply, to which thousands of Redditors felt was the absolute right call.

The passenger, whom Chemical_Store1560 claimed was from a “wealthy gated community,” had attempted to let her child ride on her lap because her group had filled the other seats. After the driver confronted her over it being illegal, she responded, “It’s my child, I’m willing to risk it.”

To prevent her from attempting the same with another Uber ride, the driver reported her directly to Uber after canceling the ride. “I got a notification in [the] app saying that they had suspended her account pending further investigation,” they concluded.

Reddit Users Commended The Uber Driver for Refusing the Mom and Child

Several commenters condemned the mother’s behavior while also praising the Uber driver for doing the right thing. “As a rider….thank you for being responsible!” wrote an individual. “Great job enforcing the rules,” another commended. “This isn’t about being rude; it’s about safety and legality. You protected yourself, the kid, and set a precedent.”

Others added how this ride could have turned into a lawsuit or a case of manslaughter had something gone wrong. Not to mention, Chemical_Store1560’s license could be revoked, as one user pointed out. “It’s wrong when people expect people providing a service for them to put their livelihood at risk for their own selfishness,” sighed another Redditor.

This isn’t the first time this Florida Uber driver has claimed to have dealt with a “bad mom.” Around a month ago, they posted a conversation in which a mother requested an UberX ride instead of an UberTeen ride for her two children. She called out the driver’s refusal to do the ride as a “race thing.”

Chemical_Store1560 has a long history of sharing negative experiences working for Uber, but ironically, like the mother in their story, their account has been banned too. Their final post was a complaint about the “bad driving habits” of “illegals” who deserve deportation, which they deleted after posting.
