Florida content creator Peach McIntyre said she was asked to leave a promotional shoot after staff accused her of racism for referring to mashed potatoes as “white people food.”
The video has gone viral on the social media platform TikTok, where commenters are taking to the replies with their opinions on the situation. There is also a broader conversation about descriptions of food and whether they are considered racist.
The above video appears to take place at a Lakewood Ranch, Florida, apartment building within its social area, where Peach McIntyre can be seen recording content for a client. Another man can be seen complaining to the staff, saying, “baby girl walking in here, white as can be, and she want to sit here and keep saying that. Oh, that’s white people food.”
According to Peach, she was creating a skit for a client who sells authentic Caribbean food, featuring mashed potatoes in the video. However, he said building staff told her to leave following complaints about comments made during the recording.
After deliberations, both she and her client were asked to leave on their own. She said police were called to the scene.
Reactions to Peach McIntyre Being Removed
TikTok users jumped into the comments to share their opinion on the situation, with one person writing, “We take our mashed potatoes very very seriously 😂😂😂😂😂.”
Peach herself also posted one of the video clips she was able to get before the situation went down, and the police removed her. She continued to stand her ground throughout, using each clip as part of her content creation, even recording when the police arrived to remove her.
At this, another commenter wrote, “Peach is smart she knows how to turn a negative into a positive that’s alchemy 💯.”
The reason this video is gaining popularity and virality is the way the situation was handled. If the food were Chinese, it would be referred to as Chinese food, just as if it were Indian or Mexican. She was ultimately removed from the premises, but continues to use the situation on social media to promote her services.
As the videos continue to go viral online, it is unclear if the apartment complex has reached out to Peach.
