Speaking more than one language appears to be treated as an offense, and even a criterion for being told to leave Florida, as a man put on an interesting show involving a woman speaking two languages. The wild interaction was covered in a clip shared on Instagram and later reposted on X. In the video, the man can be seen making a phone call to law enforcement in a dental office, standing over the counter. From behind the camera, another woman can be heard explaining what was going on, describing it as racism.
According to her, simply because she spoke a bilingual language, one of which was Spanish, the man freaked out and called ICE. However, he couldn’t be more wrong, as she is an American citizen and a Marine Corps veteran. The man could be heard telling the person on the other end of the call, “There’s an illegal immigrant in this country; they need to get out of this country,” as he stepped out of the building.
The person behind the camera, however, explained that he also did not have proper identification on him for an arrest and was reacting aggressively after not being attended to because he lacked his license. According to the caption of the video, it was detailed that the disturbing incident unfolded after the man aggressively confronted staff and customers, targeting a Latina woman for speaking her native language.
He reportedly yelled at the front desk Florida employee, then got in her face, claiming she could not speak two languages because he’s American, while questioning her identity. The situation escalated further when he seemingly called ICE in an attempt to intimidate her into silence and force her to leave the public space.
The Comments Section Erupts In Division Over Who To Support
The comments section was divided over the man’s reaction, as some people believed he was outright aggressive and simply represented the typical American who gets angry because they cannot learn another language. “ He’s in Miami and upset because people are speaking Spanish?!? Spanish is practically the primary language spoken there!” someone pointed out while trying to understand why he was angry about the language being spoken. Another person suggested that a particular group of people are losing touch, writing, “MAGAs becoming unhinged & are completely out of touch with reality. Lots of people are bilingual or have learned to speak multiple languages.”
Some comments also pointed out that speaking multiple languages does not make anyone less American and that his statement was not in any way logical. An alternative suggestion for where the man could live came up, with someone writing, “Go live in Wyoming then 😂 he’s going to have a pretty hard time living in Miami lol.” Not everyone completely dismissed his reaction, as some agreed that front desk attendants should speak English. “But how do you have a business in America and your employees don’t speak the main language. Unless your business is only geared for the language your employees speak,” a commenter pointed out.
The outburst serves as a reminder that, even though there may be expectations about the language people in Florida prefer to hear, no one should face harassment or threats because of who they are or the language they speak.
