A Reddit post from a Georgia resident is drawing attention to alleged conflicts of interest and scoring changes tied to a cybersecurity review involving Flock Safety and the city of Dunwoody. The allegations, which quickly spread across social media and Reddit, accuse a city technology official of requesting sponsorship money from the company before overseeing what was described as an independent cybersecurity assessment.
The Reddit post was uploaded by user Brilliant_Ant392 in Reddit’s Georgia community and quickly gained several hundred upvotes along with dozens of comments from users discussing the allegations. Many commenters described the claims as alarming and questioned whether the cybersecurity assessment presented to city officials accurately reflected the risks tied to Flock Safety systems in Georgia.
According to the post, the resident began looking into the issue after noticing multiple security findings in the assessment appeared to be marked as acceptable despite allegedly lacking supporting evidence. The user claimed the inconsistencies prompted a deeper review of public documents, emails, and the scoring process used during the city’s cybersecurity evaluation.
The Reddit post alleged that Dunwoody’s Technology Director in Georgia used a government email account earlier this year to request a $2,000 sponsorship from Flock Safety for a professional organization committee she was involved with. According to the user, the sponsorship request happened only months before the same official later participated in evaluating the company’s cybersecurity practices.
The post also claimed the official later contacted a Flock account executive and encouraged the company to “help bring the score up” during the assessment process. The Reddit user argued that the communication raised concerns about whether the review was truly conducted independently.
Another major concern involved the scoring system itself. According to the allegations, the cybersecurity rubric shown to the city council was changed during the review process. The Reddit user claimed a new “Yellow” category was added between existing risk levels, allowing dozens of findings that may previously have been categorized as high-risk to appear less severe in the final report presented publicly.
The Georgia user further alleged that more than 30 findings lacking supporting evidence were still scored positively and claimed that 34 “Red” findings were ultimately reduced to just two in the version presented to council members.
The allegations gained additional attention because Flock Safety has previously faced scrutiny over cybersecurity concerns. The Reddit post referenced a 2025 letter from Ron Wyden and Raja Krishnamoorthi urging federal regulators to investigate the company’s cybersecurity practices following reports involving stolen law enforcement credentials and alleged sales of Flock-related access on cybercrime forums.
The Reddit user also claimed the city had been informed about vulnerabilities previously documented by the Department of Homeland Security, including reports involving publicly accessible camera livestreams. Despite the concerns raised online, the Dunwoody City Council later voted unanimously to extend the company’s contract.
Georgia Reddit Users React With Shock
Reaction online was sharply divided. Some Georgia residents described the allegations as disturbing and questioned why the scoring system was allegedly changed during the review process. “Is it pitchfork time?” one user asked.
Others argued the available evidence did not necessarily prove wrongdoing. One commenter said the email discussing score improvements could simply reflect a normal process where vendors are encouraged to resolve outstanding issues during cybersecurity evaluations.
The original Reddit poster later acknowledged that point in a follow-up comment but maintained that the alleged rubric changes and positively scored findings without supporting evidence remained the biggest concern.
The allegations have not been independently verified, and neither Flock Safety nor officials from Dunwoody have publicly responded to the claims made in the Reddit discussion.
