A Black man in New York is facing backlash online after filming himself harassing a White father for having a Black baby.

In the video, the man was filming a father holding his baby as he followed him. On top of the video, he wrote, “Running down on white man with black baby.” As the distance between them narrowed, the man can be heard asking loudly, “Heyboy, what you doing with that black baby, boy?”

The man then continued walking alongside the father while repeatedly asking the same question and filming him and his child. He also asked whether the baby was his son, before again repeating his earlier question. As the situation escalated, the father responded, “Get this [expletive] camera out of my face,” but the man continued recording. The father repeated his request several times, while the man kept asking what he was doing with a Black baby.

The man then continued to challenge the father, asking “or what?” if he did not stop recording. The father responded that he would have to take action if the filming continued. The man then escalated the situation further and said he would call 911. In response, the father encouraged him to do so.

As the father continued walking away with his son, the man kept following him while continuing the repeated questioning and mentioning calling 911. He then shifted his tone and accused the father of being aggressive, asking, “Why are you being so aggressive?” He also added, “I’m just checking on my Black brother.”

The man continued following and speaking to the father. He later claimed that he did not like the fact that the father had a Black baby with him and said he did not know what the father was doing. The video ended with the father continuing to walk away with his child while telling the man to call 911 if he believed there was a threat, as the confrontation appeared to come to an end.

The video sparked reactions online. The incident involving the father and son in New York made many viewers upset. Several people also accused the man of racist behavior based on the interaction shown in the video. One person asked, “When do we start calling this behavior out as racism?” Another person replied, “Suspicion of a person exclusively on the basis of their race is absolutely racism. We should call it what it is.”

Others who have interracial families shared concerns about experiencing similar harassment. One person wrote, “As a white dude raising a non-white kid this is no lie a low level fear that was always on my mind at first. Really goes out the window once they’re a tween and everyone can tell they’re your daughter by how comfortably mean they are to you!”

The video shocked many viewers online, with commenters describing the behavior as racist and expressing concern about harassment directed toward interracial families.
