A couple in Nevada was reportedly caught attempting to steal lobster tails from a store just before they were able to leave the premises.
A store employee was filming the couple as they headed toward the exit, carrying their items in a small wagon with blankets placed inside. The employee then stopped them and asked them to lift the blanket up.
Without waiting for a response, the employee began removing the cover. The woman from the couple tried to argue that everything in the cart belonged to them, but the employee insisted otherwise. After the blanket was removed, it reportedly became clear that they were allegedly hiding additional unpaid items. The most highlighted items were several packs of lobster tails, which viewers online reacted to with surprise and deemed unnecessary.
The employee then removed all the items from the cart and placed them on the ground before informing the couple that they were now banned from the store. The man tried to argue that he had done nothing wrong, but the employee responded that he was aware of the alleged theft, noting that when they were first stopped, the man had claimed the woman purchased what was in the cart.
The man then showed he had money on him to argue he was not stealing. However, he eventually left the store. The video did not show any arrests being made, and the only immediate consequence appeared to be that the couple was banned from returning to the store.
Viewers Upset Following Video of Nevada Couple Trying to Steal
The video sparked reactions online. Many viewers were upset that the couple in Nevada were not arrested in the incident, arguing that the lack of immediate consequences could encourage repeat behavior. “Not arrested. No deterrent. They’ll do it again tomorrow and the next day, and the next. On and on and on. Until they’re jailed, nothing will change,” one person wrote. Another commenter added, “Talk to corporate. Too much of a hassle to call police, make a scene, take time in court. It’s purely a businesss decision.”
More viewers expressed frustration that the couple was not arrested. “And they will keep pulling this [expletive] until they arrested. Every time you let people like this walk away you are doing society a disservice. I think 5 years hard labor minimum for this is very fair. And if thieves like this know they will get Mandatory time with labor they would think twice before doing this kind of garbage,” one person wrote. Another added, “Makes me sick watching people like this stealing and you wonder why everything is so expensive.”
The video sparked discussion online about concerns over retail theft and perceptions that it may be becoming more frequent. It also led to debate about whether stronger consequences are necessary, especially in cases where individuals are not immediately arrested.
