Minnesota Resident Alarmed After Service Streaming World Cup Suddenly Broadcasts Their Workplace Location: ‘That’s Actually Kinda Scary’

Quite unsettling

Though scarcely respected by companies, customer privacy has long been a major concern, which is why a Minnesota resident was shocked to believe theirs had been compromised. Posting to r/Weird, ChampagneGraggle shared how they were simply trying to watch the World Cup during a lunch break using Fubo’s streaming service. However, instead of a broadcast of the game, they were given an unsettling image of a highway exit.

According to ChampagneGraggle, this highway exit is the exact one they use to drive to their workplace, which is rather disturbing. They also added that they don’t have a dash cam, and the image in their post doesn’t appear anywhere on their phone. In other words, the picture could only have been taken by a camera somewhere along that highway.

“That’s actually kinda scary,” remarked a Redditor. “This sounds crazy, but with Flock cameras, plus auto manufacturers getting patents for monitoring inside your vehicle,” theorized another commenter. “God wants you to go to work,” joked a third.

Reddit Theorizes the Minnesota Resident’s Stream Was Somehow Interrupted by Local Broadcast Signals

One of the most upvoted comments in the Minnesota resident’s post was of someone explaining an audiovisual technology called Multicast. The commenter believes that a nearby camera could have been “negotiating for the same IP address as the Fubo stream,” resulting in the highway image instead of the World stream from Fubo.

Others appear to agree with this theory, and ChampagneGraggle expresses that they are on board with this hypothesis as well. “This sounds about right! I checked the Minnesota traffic/weather cameras, and there certainly is a camera there,” OP wrote in response to the comment. “I suppose it’s possible that it’s B-roll from a newscast or something similar.”

Another Redditor chimed in, pointing out how the picture is “lofi, low contrasty, has motion blur and what’s most important has super 8 film sprocket hole on the left side.” That said, this user’s guess was that the still frame is from a TV show stylized with a low-res film scan for a vintage look.

Theories aside, it would still be a scare for anyone wanting to watch a sports game in another state or country, even to suddenly see an image of their city being broadcast. For ChampagneGraggle, the picture was nearby their workplace, making it definitely fitting for the r/Weird subreddit.
