North Carolina Customer Tries to Cut $6,000 Bill in Half After Crew Finishes Job in Six Hours: ‘100% Digging It Back Up’

That doesn’t even make sense

A North Carolina customer is facing backlash after telling a hardscaping crew he only wanted to pay half of their agreed price because they finished the job much faster than expected. The dispute sparked widespread online criticism, with many arguing that completing the work efficiently should not reduce workers’ pay.

The video of the interaction was shared by the hardscaping company itself. In the footage, one of the workers can be seen speaking with the customer and explaining that the job had been completed exactly as requested. The customer responded that he had expected the project to take two days to complete. Instead, the crew completed the work in less than six hours.

The customer argued that because the job was completed much sooner than he expected, the workers should not expect to receive the full agreed-upon payment of $6,000. The worker responded that he had brought in multiple crews specifically to complete the project ahead of the holiday. This was what the customer had requested. He also reminded the customer that the $6,000 invoice reflected the price they agreed on.

In response, the customer said he only wanted to pay $3,000. His reasoning was that the crew spent about half as much time as he expected on the project. “Work was still done that you were asking for. It’s just that, you know, we did it faster,” the worker replied. The customer continued insisting that he should pay less than the agreed price. The worker eventually offered to reduce the bill to $4,000 to resolve the dispute. The customer, however, remained firm that he only wanted to pay $3,000.

“Listen, just don’t ever call me again though,” the worker told the customer. He then appeared to walk away from the conversation. The video also began with an earlier clip. In it, the worker could be heard saying, “Just keep your money. I don’t want it. [Expletive] it.” It is unclear how the dispute was ultimately resolved, whether the workers accepted the customer’s $3,000 offer, received the full agreed-upon amount, or left without taking any payment.

Viewers Shocked Over North Carolina Customer’s Payment Suggestion

The video sparked reactions online. Many viewers said they could not believe the North Carolina customer wanted to pay only half of the agreed price simply because the crew finished the job early. Some argued that the workers should have removed the completed work before leaving. “100% digging it back up,” one person wrote. Another commenter replied, “You can’t do that. It’s actually illegal. And they know it. You go to jail for trying to repossess it once it’s on their property. It’s theirs. You can, however, file a lien on the property, and then if it’s ever attempted to be sold before civil court proceedings can be completed then they will have to settle the lien in full before the property can be sold.”

Others criticized the worker for offering to accept less than the original price. They believed he should have insisted on the full agreed amount. “You need to stop negotiating against yourself. He agreed to $6,000 before the job started. Whether it took six hours or two days is irrelevant, that’s the value of your skill, your crew, and your efficiency. The second you offered $4,000, you rewarded him for trying to renegotiate after the work was done. If you make a habit of that, people will keep trying to take advantage of you because they’ll expect you’ll cave,” one person wrote.

Whether the customer ever paid the full amount remains unknown, but the dispute serves as a reminder that many people see efficiency as something worth paying for rather than a reason to renegotiate the bill after the work is finished.
