Among the neighbors whom people find somewhat annoying to be around, one Colorado homeowner encountered quite the unbearable nearby resident: a bear that broke into his home. Deep_pants_mcgee on Reddit posted security camera footage of his front door on r/mildlyinfuriating under the post title “Neighbor we’ve never even met before broke into our house at 3am the other night.” In the video, a curious adult bear rips through the screen of an open window and meticulously climbs into the house.

While a good number of people found the intruder more than alarming, Deep_pants_mcgee had quite a humorous aura in the comments, seemingly not taking the break-in too seriously. “Your neighbor seems nice,” quipped a commenter, to which OP replied, “Maybe they’ll stop by the next time I try a 6-hour rib smoke.” Jokes aside, the homeowner went on to explain exactly what happened and how he quickly shooed the bear back outside.

“It was only in the house about 10 seconds,” Deep_pants_mcgee recalled, adding how the room the window led into was an office, so there wasn’t any food in there. However, he believes the wild animal might have been after the dog food in the kitchen. In the video, the bear can be seen dashing out of the window much faster than it crawled in. From the noise it made, OP believed it was someone breaking into his house, so he rushed downstairs, jumping down the staircase to the middle landing.

The Colorado Homeowner Explained How He Scared Off the Bear

Deep_pants_mcgee began yelling as well, which likely scared the bear off. “They’re typically very timid about loud noise,” OP explained. He added how bears usually aren’t aggressive unless they have cubs, and this particular visitor seemed to be exploring, not looking for a confrontation.

“I really thought it was a shameless human neighbor who broke in,” exclaimed a Redditor in disbelief. “He just came to borrow some honey,” chuckled another. “And [it was] bearly dressed too!” exclaimed a third. “I like how the approach is very… I know I shouldn’t be doing what I’m about to do,” chimed in a third.

That said, the Colorado homeowner made sure to let people know that his humor shouldn’t be confused for carelessness, especially around a massive wild animal. “ I am not one of those people that thinks I could take a bear in 1:1 combat. That bear would tear me a new one and not break a sweat if it wanted to,” he wrote.
