Maryland Man’s Car Was Stolen While He Was Robbing a Store: ‘That’s Karma Biting Him’

Instant karma!

Sometimes, karma takes a while to come back around. Other times, it’s instantaneous. The latter was most certainly the case for a Maryland man who had his car stolen while he was allegedly busy robbing a store.

Police bodycams reveal that a man called the cops on June 25, 2026, to report that his truck was stolen. However, the officers quickly realized that the man matched the physical description – and suffered the same injuries – as someone who had just robbed a Verizon store across the street. While the police were busy looking for the thief, the thief literally brought them to him by reporting his truck stolen!

Naturally, the internet greatly enjoyed the clip. One person commented, “Gotta just laugh at it at this point.” Another shared, “That’s karma biting him in the [expletive].” A third person echoed, “There is no honor among THIEVES!“

Others opted to share what the Maryland man could have done in order to get away with the robbery and still recover his stolen vehicle. One Redditor suggested, “Idiot! I would have at least found a way to get home and called the cops the next day saying the car got stolen out of my driveway.” Other recommendations followed along those same lines, as the consensus seemed to be that the man should have reported the truck stolen when he was further away from the store he’d allegedly just robbed.

Many pointed out that the police often don’t care to look for stolen vehicles, but reporting a stolen truck would at least enable the victim to collect insurance money. However, as this person put it, “He can’t even make an insurance claim on it since he was committing a felony while it was stolen!“

Another individual wondered if the instant karma would keep on coming. They wrote, “Hide yo wallet, hide yo truck, hide yo phone, they robbin everyone out here. Even other robbers. I wonder if the guy who stole his truck got robbed afterwards too?“

Since the incident, the alleged thief has been identified as a 29-year-old Ellicott City resident. He has been charged with second-degree burglary, theft, and destruction of property. The Maryland, Howard County Police Department has shared that the truck in question was not found. Although it’d be understandable if they didn’t even try to locate the vehicle, the police maintain that the search for the truck continues.

Well, it’s already a mistake to commit a crime. That said, essentially calling the cops on yourself may just be the biggest facepalm moment of all time!
