Wanting the best for one’s friends is nice and all until one friend selfishly wants the best, as one California man awkwardly did at a reunion. Technically, though, he believed his new girlfriend deserved better than some frozen dinner, according to the host. The host, who goes by OhGloriousName on Reddit, made a post asking whether they were in the wrong for not having enough food for their friend’s new, uninvited partner.
OhGloriousName says they like to throw a nice dinner party for their old friends, but one who was previously single showed up with his new girlfriend, unannounced. OP claimed to have spent over $300 on filet mignon and a lobster tail but didn’t have enough for this new extra guest.
Despite their friend’s inconsideration, the host tried to be hospitable by asking him and his girlfriend whether a frozen dinner, like freezer pizza or something, would be okay, given the lack of servings. “He was very upset with me and accused me of not liking his new girlfriend and trying to embarrass them. After his outburst, they left,” OhGloriousName recalled.
Reddit Backed the California Host All the Way and Condemned the Boyfriend’s Behavior
Out of the 14K people who upvoted the Reddit post, that plus 3K more all agreed with their upvotes that OhGloriousName absolutely did nothing wrong. “Obviously, you were being as gracious as a host can be and your friend was being selfish and dumb. I bet his new gf was not exactly impressed with his behavior,” remarked the top commenter.
“The friend could have offered up his lobster tail or mignon to his girlfriend,” added another. A third user expressed how the boyfriend should not have brought a surprise extra guest and expected the same expensive food to be prepared for her. “He is so entitled! Wow. I have no words for this BS,” exclaimed a fourth.
For additional context, OhGloriousName edited their post, saying that another friend found out that the man and his new girlfriend had been arguing before dinner. “So that is part of the reason he was upset and quick to leave,” OP concluded.
