While convenient for his customer base, one irate Vermont restaurant owner says he’s disabling DoorDash from using his business. The reason is the drivers themselves and how much trouble he claims they’ve put him through. The business owner goes by Ooofloard and shared exactly why he believes the delivery service has become more of a detriment to his restaurant than an advantage. He claims he has a list of 80 DoorDashers who are banned from entering his restaurant, and that number has only gotten larger by the day.
“I literally have to disable DoorDash from my restaurant,” Ooofloard begins his post on r/doordash. He does admit there are decent, polite drivers who come in, wait for their name to be called, and give him no trouble. “But it’s the 99% that really pissed me off,” Ooofloard growled. And thousands of Redditors chiming into his post are 100% in agreement.
“They come in, and they don’t speak a lick of English except for how long from my order,” remarks the Vermont restaurant manager. He says these Dashers are inconsiderate and rude to his employees, even when they’re busy serving customers. Not only that, these drivers allegedly stand around, blocking the walkways where people need to pass through. “Now it is my part-time job to stand by the cash register and protect my employees from being harassed,” groans Ooofloard.
He mentioned that some even get angry at him when he tells them the food isn’t ready yet. And then when he calls their name, several others rush to the counter to show their phones, even though their names weren’t called. The fact that so many drivers behave like this is why Ooofloard believes it’s best to disable DoorDash, for the sake of his and his employees’ sanity. “This is insane, and that needs to stop,” he concludes.
Redditors Say They Would Prefer In-House Delivery Services to DoorDash
“Bring back in-house delivery services! I prefer this heavily over door dash,” suggests a commenter, with hundreds upon hundreds of users upvoting in support of the idea. “DD attracts bottom of the barrel,” sighed another. “It’s literally only the worst people that stick to it, and the system is designed that way,” agreed another.
Another Redditor claiming to work in the restaurant business for almost 20 years claims DoorDash is “the worst thing that’s happened to the industry.” Even though it’s good for profit, the type of drivers the service has attracted has allegedly ruined delivery service for many people. “People here don’t like to admit it, but most drivers are rude. I can’t even tell you how many drivers I’ve had to kick out of employee-only area,” the commenter wrote.
It goes without saying that low-entry jobs with poor vetting can sometimes have a controversial workforce, and the countless online stories of DoorDash cause people to believe this delivery service is a prime example. In Ooofloard’s case, it most certainly seems to be the case, and based on the reaction of Redditors to his post, plenty of others appear to feel the same.
